PLC Structure
• PLC: Professional Learning Community
 Early release days: 2-3:30 pm
Two ½-Day in-services
 Professional Development Opportunities

during the summer


PLC In The Prairie
• Teachers will meet by departments or teams
(some time will be designated to meet with 7-12
departments)
• Focus will be developed by teachers. Possible
areas could be:
 PDP development & work
 Tier I, II, & III student plans
 curriculum development
 collaboration with Spec Ed/ELL teachers, Title I
 book studies
 RTI
Everybody’s Talkin’….
…But teachers need to communicate!
PLC’s offer teachers a chance to:

 communicate within departments!


 communicate across grades & district
 communicate with administration
 communicate with other departments

PLC time will be created by
ending instructional time one
hour early nine different times a
year. In-services designed by the
district will occur two half days
(afternoons) during the year.
Such a schedule could be:

• September –1 PLC – Sept. 16
• October – 1 PLC - Oct. 14
• Oct. 22: ½ day inservice
• November – 1 PLC – Nov. 4
• December – 1 PLC – Dec. 9
• January – 1 PLC Jan. 27
• Jan. 22 work day (part of calendar now, 1 of the 190 teacher
contracted days)
• February – 1 PLC – Feb. 10
• March – 1 PLC – March 10 PLC
• March 23: ½ day inservice
• April – 1 PLC – April 14
• May – 1 PLC – May 19

Teacher PLC: 2-3:30 on chosen Wednesday of month

• PLC Committee: teachers and administrators
study process, propose plans, receive feedback
• Presentation by teachers from districts that
have implemented PLCs (Badger)
• Visits to districts who have implemented PLCs:
(Badger High School, Lake Geneva, WI; Adlai
Stevenson High School, Lincolnshire, IL )
– Representatives from all departments and grade
levels should try to attend these visits

or Summer: Could be used for Profess.

extended child-care options available
• “Options Available” FAQs to be developed &
Distributed to teachers
• Structure of Professional Development specifics to
be developed (summer)…i.e. communication,
agenda items, hosts, etc…
A Few More Things…
• Kids’ Club is planning to extend their hours to
help accommodate parents during PLC time
• Jed Eichorn is planning for recreation
activities through the Community Center
during this time, as well
• Remember: This is a one-year trial to see
how PLCs will work here at SP…The
committee will look for your feedback this
time next year to find out what you think
works, doesn’t work, etc.
