SUMMARY
Due to the fundamental objective of education to nurture an inquiring mind and a fit
body and emergence of sport elite through structured approach in sport, a lot of
stakeholders in education in South Africa seek to integrate physical education in
school curriculum. As co-curricular activities help to enhance students learning
outcomes, it is essential for schools to develop holistic curriculum which seeks to
develop mental, physical, social and emotional of students.
South Africa government is equally concerned about the future needs of the
education system, particularly related to learner achievement. This study
elaborates on the pros of participating in sport activities . However there are studies
that believe sport is no more that time waster and free play time for children. Not
only that, there are also a few other studies that states the negative effects brought
by participation of co-curricular activities; for instance, alcohol and tobacco intake.
Despite the negative arguments, there are other studies that showed how co-
curricular activities increase intrinsic motivation among students. It is through this
background that the present study used to confirm learners view on significance of
co-curricular activities participation and the impacts to them.

to academic achievement & higher chance of success
In general, the results from respondents consistent with the positive perceptions towards
co-curricular activities they also want schools to provide more opportunities

learner THEMSELVES.

-All students should participate
-They should be supported too
