Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority is a Public
sector autonomous body working under the
Federal Government of Pakistan through the
Ministry of Defence.
It was established on 7th December, 1982 as an
autonomous body.
Prior to its creation, a Civil Aviation Department
in the Ministry of Defence used to manage the
civil aviation related activities

PIA Engineering & Maintenance is among the
very first group of Non-European
organizations which qualified as EASA

PIA ENGINEERING
PIA Engineering & Maintenance now includes
the heavy maintenance on state-of the-art
Boeing 777 aircraft.
Also, Boeing 747, Boeing 737, Airbus A300 and
Airbus A310 aircraft including maintenance
on most of their Components at Shop level.
Quality Management System (ISO
9001:2008) Certifications

PIA achieved the initial ISO certification in
the year 2006, and since then it is successfully
maintaining all the certifications through
regular independent management systems
audits by accredited audit organizations.
HSE Management System
(Health, Safety &
Environment)

PIA plans to conduct organization wide HSE
trainings, development of HSE objectives,
implementation of HSE system procedures
and management reviews to assess the
continual effectiveness of the HSE system.
These accomplishments will make PIA a safer
airline, paving the way for OHSAS and ISO
certifications.
PIA HORTICULTURE

Plants and trees provide habitat, shelter,
food, materials and medicines to human
beings and animals. Realizing the significance
of a healthy and pollution-free environment
PIA set up a horticulture division in 1996.
To reduce pollution and contribute towards a
greener Pakistan, PIA Horticulture actively
participates in tree plantation campaigns
during each spring and monsoon season.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLANNING
The Emergency Response Planning Section has developed
an Emergency Response Manual and manages Emergency
Response Center Teams, Field Teams, Family Assistance
and Support Teams, and Volunteers.
The ERP Section also trains volunteers in the areas of
aircraft emergencies, rescue, basic first aid, and fire
fighting to effectively respond to natural disasters.
Emergency Response Facilities include the computerized
data storage of teams and volunteers with an automated
emergency call out system. This software application also
provides a technology supported callback system for
contacting families of the affected.
PIAs Emergency Response Planning Section hopes to
contribute meaningfully towards national capacity building
in the area of emergency management, through financial
and human resource investments.

Political factors always have a great influence on the
way businesses operate in the airline industry and
the spending power of customers. In recent years it
has been observed that government played an
active role in increasing competition in the airline
industry.

Currently, Airlines industry has three major players:
Pakistan International Airlines, an Airblue, Aero Asia
and Shaheen Airlines. Their target market includes
domestic travelers as well as Pakistanis living
abroad particularly in the UK and USA.

Pakistan is closely tied. The trend is now changing
as the general public is educated and is pursuing
