SEPAK TAKRAW

INTRODUCTION

Created since 500 years ago by the royal family of
Malacca in the 15 century .
The name itself comes from 2 languages. sepak
is kicking in Malay and takraw is the ball in Thai.

Sepak takraw played by two team which each team
has 3 players .

Nowadays Sepak takraw played on a modified
badminton doubles court , with the net standing five
feet above the ground.
SEPAK TAKRAW HISTORY

The Malay history described the incident happened Raja
Muhammad , a son of Sultan Mansur Shah who was
accidentally hit with a rattan ball by Tun Besar , a son
of Tun Perak , in a sepak raga game.

The rattan ball hit Raja Muhammads headgear and
knocked it down to ground.In anger , Raja Muhammad
stabbed and killed Tun Besar.

Some of tun Besars kinsmen strike back and wanted to
kill Raja Muhammad. Tun Perak managed to control
them from such an act of disloyalty. Sultan Mansur Syah
ordered his son out of Malacca and he continued being
the ruler of Pahang.
Nowadays with a compromise between Malaysia and
Thailand, Sepak Takraw has two categories of game,
bulatan and jaring.
Sepak takraw bulatan is the
game which the player form
a circle and try to keep the
ball in the air as long as
possible.
Sepak Takraw jaring is the
modern version which the
ball is passsed across a
court a high net.

The ball can be in one
colour , colourful and bright
colour but should not
disturb the players
concentration .

ISTAF before using it in any
formal or international games.

2. FOOTWEAR







The most important piece of equipment because most
players refer to kick in court shoes.
Features : support the feet , flat surface at the instep
and made from rubber.
3. TAKRAW COURT



Court area : 13.4 m x
6.1 away from all
obstacles until 8 feet
from the surface of the
court floor. Grass court
and sand court are not
allowed.

1.2 width of the lines
bounding the court should
more 0.04 m measured and
drawn inwards from the dge
of the court measurements.
Court boarders : at least 10.0
feet ( 3.0 m ) away from all
obstacles.
THE SERVICE CIRCLE


The service circle of 1 foot radius
shall be drawn on the left and right
court , the centre of which is 8 feet
from the back line of the court and
10 feet from the side boundary. The
service circle is measured and drawn
outward from the edge of the centre
of the 1 foot radius.
The width of the lines bounding
the court should be 0.04m
measured and drawn inwards
from the edge of the court
measurements .
Played by two regus
Consists of three or four
players.
Separate by the net same
like badminton.
A player called Tekong
(server) serves the ball
from any position along
and behind the basedline.

HOW TO PLAY THE GAMES

Two players must stand in front , one player on the
left side which called (Apit kiri) and one more
player on the right side called (Apit Kanan).

A player throw the ball to his friend using hand to
start the serve.

The tekong kicks the ball to the opponents side
court.
The players that make a circle must take
turn to bumping the ball using their feet nd
control it to make sure the ball did not fall
to the ground.

If the ball fall to the ground , the game is
over ..
The tekong , who is making the service
throws , plays about with the ball (throwing
up the ball , bumping ) after the call of score
has been made by the referee.
The non-serving players of the serving regu
move away from his adopted position for the
serve when the serve is being made.
The tekong jumps off the ground or when his
feet goes across the baseline with any part of
his body when executing the serve.


Tekong does not kick the ball on the service throw.

The ball touches his owned player before crossing
over the opponent court.

The ball goes over the net but falls outside the
the court.

The ball does not cross to the opponent side.


When either serving and receiving side commits
a fault , a point is awarded to the opponents
side including making next service.

The winning point for a set is 21 points , unless
the point is tied at 20-20 , the set shall be
decided on a difference of two points , up to a
ceiling of 25 points.

The game is played in 2 sets with 2-minute rest in
between.


If each regu wins one sets , the game shall be decided
in the third set called Tiebreak with 15 points unless
the point is tied at 14-14 , then the set shall be decided
on difference of two points , up to a ceiling of 17
points.


Before the tiebreak set takes place ,the referee shall
toss a disc or coin.


The change of sides take place when one regu reaches 8
points.






SEPAK TAKRAW FUTURE
Nowadays , many international games that include Sepak
takraw as a part of the games such as Comanwel games , SEA
games, Asian games and others. It shows that sepak takraw
became popular at international level which participate by countries
that never expose to this game before such as Japan , Korea ,
Australia and others.

Participation from female team also can be seen in high
level competition such as SEA games and Asian games. This totally
a sign that the popuilarity of this game not only played by male
but also female .


CONCLUSION
Sepak Takraw at the beginning only a culture game and
plated by royal family but after introduce in proper way its
became popular and able to increase Malaysia economy
and good expose to our palayers and community.

In this context we able to conclude that when traditional
game and technology culture been combine it able to
make the culture became more popular .

Sepak takraw is a good example how the traditional game
which only played during leisure time able to became one of
the tool to introduce our country in international level and
development of the community.
