It requires the curricula of private and
public schools, colleges and universities
courses to include the life, works and
writings of Jose Rizal, particularly his
novels Noli Me Tangere and El
Filibusterismo.
Provisions
1. To teach Filipino students nationalism
or love of country as expressed in the
life and writings of Jose Rizal
2. to make Rizals Noli Me Tangere and
El Filibusterismo required reading in
schools
- unexpurgated or uncensored
version
3. Exemption from the reading of the
novels, based on religious belief, is
available, but not exemption from the
course.
4. directs schools to keep an adequate
number of copies of the novels in their
libraries.
5. have the novels translated into the
major Philippine languages, cause them
to be printed in cheap, popular editions

Father - Don Francisco Mercado
Mother - Dona Teodora Alonso
Siblings:
1. Saturnina Rizal Mercado (1850-1913), Rizal's eldest sibling. She
was the wife of Manuel T. Hidalgo of Tanauan, Batangas.
2. Paciano Rizal Mercado (1851-1930) was Rizal's only brother. He
was the second child in the family.
3. Narcisa Rizal Mercado (1852-1939) was Rizal's sister and the
third child in the family. She was married to Antonio Lopez of
Morong, Rizal.
4. Olympia Rizal Mercado (1855-1887), was Jose Rizal's sister. She
was the fourth child in the Rizal Mercado family. She was
married to Silvestre Ubaldo, and died of childbirth in 1887.
5. Lucia Rizal Mercado (1857-1919), was Rizal's sister and the
fifth child of the Rizal Mercado family. She was the wife of
Mariano Herbosa

6. Maria Rizal Mercado (1859-1945), was Rizal's sister. She was the sixth
child in the Mercado family. She was the wife of Daniel Faustino Cruz of
Bian, Laguna.
7. Jose Protacio Rizal Mercaso y Alonso Realonda (1861-1896)
8. Concepcion Rizal (1862-1865). The eight child. Died at the age of three.
9. Josefa Rizal (1865-1945).The ninth child. An epileptic, died a spinster.
10. Trinidad Rizal(1868-1951).The tenth child. Died a spinster and the last of
the family to die.
11. Soledad Rizal Mercado (1870-1929), was the sister of Jose Rizal Mercado
and the youngest child in the Rizal Mercado family. She was the wife of
Pantaleon Quintero
