Delivery ship is normally the control ship
Exceptions to the rule where the receiving

CV/LHA/LHD always furnish and fire

deck
Oilers make approach on CV/CVNs due to
blockage of visibility on bridge
When receiving ship has less than 50
personnel, delivery ship will furnish and

combatants
150ft (50yds) for carriers / less
maneuverable ships / inclement

Naval terminology for replenishment
course and speed
*speed normally 13-15 knots

-never > 15 knots = Venturi effect
Considerations for selection include
sea conditions, wind direction and
velocity
