of Man
Chapter IV
HEZEKIAH | MARICEL | LOUISZA
EXISTENTIAL PHENOMENOLOGY
DEFINED
Introduction His existence is his deepest concern. Why do I
exist? The different phenomena happening in his life open his
mind to assume that his existence is a purposeful one. Why is this
happening?
Heidegger (Existentialism) Man has fallen to the they, and
must wrestle his own existence to stand out. Man is a Dasein
Husserl (Phenomenology) Logical inquiry with the furniture
things of the world (bracketing)
EXISTENTIAL PHENOMENOLOGY
DEFINED
Kierkegaard - (Existentialism) Beyond crowd-existence, man
must use freedom to own and master his individual values.
Frankl - (Existentialism) Man must derive meaning from life
beyond pleasure and pain.
WHAT IS MAN?
1. Man in general
2. Man as an individual entity
EXPERIENCE
AS POINT OF REFERENCE
Man is identified by his own individual experiences

THE HUMAN BODY
As a companion
As same substance among all
As medium between you and the world - Senses
ACTIVITY: SENSES 2MINUTES
Aristotle Nothing is in the mind without passing through the senses

Simple Apprehension
SPACE AND TIME
THIS BODY EXISTS AT A PARTICULAR
Space place (where?)
Time - (when?)

BUT, I AM MORE THAN MY BODY

Existential Phenomenology - Vivid isnt it?
1. THE BODY - PROPERTY
BUT, I AM MORE THAN MY BODY
Relationship between I and Body
Ownership possession to have

THREE CRITERIA FOR OWNERSHIP
(IRF)
1A. INDIVIDUALITY
I ALONE OWN MY BODY
No transfer of ownership

THE BODY IS A SUBJECT, NOT AN OBJECT

NOT against Law of Life
SHARING: INDIVIDUALITY
1PERSON, 3MINUTES
When I become a nurse, does it also mean I allow
others to use my body for their benefit?
Do I allow the doctor to use my body because he
needs this for a deadline?
1B. RESPONSIBILITY
This is the mark of being a free and intelligent being
Maintenance of the body perpetuate the life through good care
Maintenance is the inevitable outcome of being free
You suffer the consequences if there is a failure in responsibility

Apparently, there are times that we allow others to use our body for
something good (either for self or others)
Who assumes responsibility, the owner or user of the body?
SHARING: RESPONSIBILITY
1PERSON, 3MINUTES
Our existence comes from our parents, and thus
perform responsibility. We stay in our mothers womb
for 9 months before being born.
Does the child own the parents too? How is that?
1C. FULL CONTROL
Control entails the power to command and obedience
SHARING: CONTROL
1PERSON, 3MINUTES
A man intoxicated from too much drinking commits a
crime.
Who was in control and liable the body or the I?
2. BODY - INSTRUMENT
The human body reinforces and enhances the I.
SHARING: BODY - INSTRUMENT
1PERSON, 3MINUTES
How is the human body an instrument of the I?
3. BODY - REPRESENTATIVE

There is delegation.
The agent is not an exact image of the principal. separate &
unique
SHARING: BODY - REPRESENTATIVE
1PERSON, 3MINUTES
How is the human body a mere representative of the
I?
MAN SUBJECTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS
OBJECT
