S/he is more confident
There are less chances of alterations,
mistakes or tampering with the data
Apexa Dharankar
Disadvantages:
Less or no eye contact
No use of space
The speech may turn out to be
monotonous if the reader is not

presentation the presenter memorises
the speech and presents it without

STAGE FEAR IS NATURAL
Everyone faces stage fear.
What is important is how you
handle it.
Making yourself aware of certain
facts can help you much better.

Apexa Dharankar
STRATEGIES TO COPE
Be better prepared.
Keep in mind that everyone has
this.
Only way to get over it is by facing
it.
Never try to be unnatural.

Apexa Dharankar

HOW TO BE BETTER PREPARED?
Rehearse the ideas, see their logical
relationship.
Try to come from conclusion to the
argument.
Try to present the core points in two
sentences, then in five sentences, then in
ten sentences.
You must be able to adjust to the time
constraints yet not loose out important
points.

Apexa Dharankar
REMINDING YOURSELF
Reminding yourself that it is something
natural to all.
The causes of fear:
Expectation that you will have to do
well.
Inability to include too many things in
limited time.
Uncomfortable feeling when too many
eyes gaze at you.

Apexa Dharankar
Eagerness to answer all questions
satisfactorily.
Bad habit of critically viewing your own
performance at the time of performance.
Apexa Dharankar
FACING BRAVELY
No amount of intellectual deliberation
can reduce stage fear without going to
the stage.
Experiencing is the best way to learn to
overcome it.
Make presentation more often, convert
every crisis into an opportunity.

Apexa Dharankar
NEVER BE UNNATURAL
Artificiality does not interest many.
You need to internalize the principles
and they should sound natural.
Form should not overweigh the content.
Chances are more that you get exposed
when you try to behave what you are
not.
Meta-message goes through without
your knowledge.

Apexa Dharankar
DESCRIBING OBJECTS/SITUATIONS/PEOPLE
A description should start with an
attention seeking statement, for
example one of the most beautiful work
of arts..
Connect the objects, situations and
people to the audience.
Maintain a warm and intimate style. Ask
for views from the audience.
Apexa Dharankar
Description should be lively, incisive and
thought provoking. It should bring to
fore some hidden insight/message.
A good description needs effective use
of words.
Apexa Dharankar
INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP PRESENTATIONS
A group presentation is an attractive
alternative to individual presentation as
work is shared, labour is decreased and
at the end during presentation the time
spent in front of audience is less, so it
seems less terrifying.
Apexa Dharankar
FACTORS AFFECTING GROUP PRESENTATION
Compilation of a group presentation
should be tight, each part properly
connecting to the other.
Each group member should not start
with a greeting.
Do not start abruptly without making any
attempt to connect with the preceding
speaker.
Apexa Dharankar
FACTORS AFFECTING GROUP PRESENTATION
Preparation is a very important aspect
that plays a vital role in group
presentation.
Once the preceding speaker has
completed his/her part, the next should
start with a brief recap of what went
before.
Apexa Dharankar
FACTORS AFFECTING GROUP PRESENTATION
At times group members end up
contradicting each other. Though there
are many members, the presentation is
one.
There should not be any improper
distribution of topics and slides.
Apexa Dharankar
FACTORS AFFECTING GROUP PRESENTATION
Plan well the sequence of appearance.
Rehearse
Stick to time limit.

PATTERNS FOR PRESENTATION
Chronological pattern
In this pattern ideas are arranged keeping
in mind the chronology of events. Eg.
History of LDCE.
Causal pattern
In this pattern the ideas are divided in two
parts- cause and effects. Eg. Green
house effect.
Apexa Dharankar
Spatial pattern
It is best for presentations with
geographical or structural orientation.
Eg. Design of atomic reactor, Structure
of an SUV.

Apexa Dharankar
Topical pattern
A commonly employed technique that
divides the presentation into topics and
sub-topics or headings and sub-
headings. Eg. Types of Cancers

Apexa Dharankar
Psychological pattern
Arranging the ideas according to the need
of the listeners. Eg. Immigration: A by-
product of Globalization
