DRUG ABUSE..

WHY DRUG ABUSE

Because many people do not
understand why or how other people
become addicted to drugs.
It is often mistakenly assumed that drug
abusers lack moral principles or will
power and that they could stop using
drugs simply by choosing to change their
behavior. But in reality, drug addiction is
a complex disease and quitting takes
more than good intensions or a strong
will.
ACTIVITIES:
The film THE BASKETBALL DIARIES was
shown. The film basically deals with the
troubles and misfortunes which a boy
of adolescent age faces due to
excessive usage of Drugs.
A SEMINAR was conducted by
Dr. Delvin T Robin from Amrita
Ayurveda Hospital. The talk included
the harmful effects of drugs in our
bodies.
More about Activities:

MOVIE: THE BASKETBALL DIARIES

1. The movie is based on the
autobiographical book of the
same name by Jim Carroll.
2. The film is an adaptation of poet
and memoirist Jim Carrolls
juvenile diaries chronicling
kaleidoscopic freefall into the
harrowing world of Drug
Addiction.

SEMINAR
Dr. Delvin T Robin from Amrita School
of Ayurveda gave an informative talk
about the ill-effects of the usage of
different types of drugs.
The talk chiefly included the changes
in bodily functions after prolonged
usage of liquor, cigarette, heroin,
cocaine etc..
The guest gave solid information
about the changes in brain chemistry
due to the chemical reactions of drugs
in our brain.
He stressed on the point- Peer Group
Pressure which is the most important
reason in pulling a person into Drug
Addiction.
He also dealt with the development of
cancerous tissues in liver, lungs etc.
because of the Radicals present in
ALCOHOL.

Difficulties faced
Initially we had some confusions regarding the selection of
topics. Some topics we took lacked social responsibility,
and a couple of subjects we considered had already been
approved to other teams
The various topics proposed are:
1. Skin care
2. Energy conservation
3. Rain water harvesting
4. Brain drain
5. Food adulteration
6. Eye Checkup Camp

Finding a doctor for taking seminar in the college campus was a
tedious job

While the screening took place the speakers didnt have enough
volume.

Selecting a movie related to our topic was a challenging task. We
had to select a movie that primarily focuses on drug addiction and
also gave a good message to the viewers.

How did we tackle the difficulties?
Even though our initial proposals were not approved we were highly
motivated and immediately came up with new proposals.

For selecting the movie we approached many of our friends for their
suggestions and searched through net. We set up some criteria for the
movie which were as follows:
1.Movie content
2.Social responsibilities
3.Appealing to the viewers
4.Well known actor
5.Rating
6.Good message to the viewers
And finally we came up with the movie The Basketball Diaries.

When the sound transmission from laptop to sound system didnt
function properly, we placed the microphone over the speaker of the
laptop and solved the problem.

The helping hand extended by Biju Swamy had a great impact in
our project. Swamy helped us in finding the right person for the
seminar.

The talk was made compulsory for a batch during the seminar as
the timing of the talk was during the class-hours. Hence we ensured a
fair participation for the seminar.

SCOPE OF IMPROVING PROJECT
The same project can be extended to school level and more
awareness campaigns can be carried out.

We could have created a rehab centre or conducted a
counseling session for those who were already involved in drugs but it
takes time and resources to do such things.

WHAT DID WE LEARN
The project experience gave us an opportunity to know the
difficulties faced by the organizers while conducting a
program.

It gave us the spirit and enthusiasm to go further with such
projects as well as other projects.

The hosting process of the program gave us an overall idea
about the procedures and order for the conduct of the
program.
ULTIMATE SUCCESS OF THE PROJECT

The Success of the
project lies there
where even a single
soul chooses to stay
away from the path
of Drug Addiction.

Our sincere prayers
to all the people
and we humbly
request to be as far
as possible from
