IT in Education Victoria University is formed as new by merging two institutes of technology. Large dual sector catering for wide range of students. Looking for new ways of providing education and training in cost effective ways. School of Information Systems is implementing IT to support delivery of courses. School offers graduation and post-graduation courses relating the business computing.
Case Background
University is taking initiative of supplementing traditional on ground courses with material available on internet.
The materials are in form of lecture notes, useful links, supplemental materials, assignment distribution, managed discussions etc.
A range of subjects were selected to gauge the effectiveness.
All subjects chosen in case study uses CENTRAL POINT SYSTEM.
Two U.G. subjects: Information Technology Management and Object Oriented Systems.
Two P.G. subjects: Management Information Systems & Building Small Business Systems. Four subjects (two undergraduate & two postgraduate) are examined.
Each subject uses IT for different added value benefits.
Subject coordinator comment upon the use of IT for both academic and administrative aspects & survey is conducted to determine if the added value benefits match their expectations
Students are surveyed to determine the value of IT from their perspective.
Case Methodology At the conclusion of each subject, a survey was conducted among students consisting of 9 questions.
For each questions the student could respond either YES, NO or N/A and the responses were further gauged by Likert-type scale of five ratings.
Responses were converted to an effectiveness ratio by arbitrarily providing a score & comparing it against the maximum possible score.
