Brief History
Founded May 1997 as Beifang Jinde
Catholic Social Service Center, the first
nonprofit Catholic Social Service Center in
Mainland China
Obtained provincial government
acknowledgment in August 1998
Was officially registered as “Jinde Charities,”
April 2006
The Meaning of Jinde
The name “Jinde” is chosen in memory of
the Late Bishop Hou Jinde, an exemplary
pastor of Xingtai Diocese, Hebei Province,
China.
The two Chinese characters 进德 also
mean “to advance in virtue,” advocating
“Practicing Charity, Witnessing Faith.”
The journey to virtue is long and arduous;
yet, filled with hope, we strive on with
determination.
The Present Status
Situated in Hebei Prov., but receiving help from both
domestic and overseas donors and offering services to the
needy throughout China
For the time being, Jinde belongs to the Hebei local
Catholic Church and be managed by the Bishops from
Hebei and some other professionals (among the ten-
members of the Board of Directors, three are Bishops
from Hebei

 Jinde was founded for the people and created
by the people, with no recognition given by the
government in Chinese society during the first
year of operations.
 After doing the first emergency relief work
(1998), we got understanding and support from
the Chinese society. The permission was given
by the local government in Hebei province.
1998: First Public Relief Work in
ZhangJiaKou, Hebei, Northwest Beijing
 Date: Jan 10 1998,
 Disaster: Earthquake, 6.2 magnitude

Jinde was recognized by the government in 1998.


2001:Relief Work in Inner
Mongolia and in Hebei
 2001 Heavy Snow storms in Inner-Mongolia.
Jinde worked with the Catholic Church in
Germany and Austria to raise 400,000RMB ($48,780)
for relief work
 Stages:

through Caritas Asia and in the name of
the Chinese Catholics conveyed our
condolences to the victims of the tsunami,
and has immediately made a contribution
of 6,000 USD to tsunami disaster relief.
