MDE Lab Infrastructure Setup
1.Intermec 2425 Scanner (Handheld device)

RF Keypad Handheld Computer for Terminal Emulation (VT 220).
This Device has an Internal Laser Scanner
Scans the barcode and passes the data through the SAP Console
server to SAP. All handheld computers have an internal (battery
operated) power supply and provide two-way communication.
No programs are running in scanners. All screens come from SAP.
Scanners capture and pass data to SAP.

MDE Lab Infrastructure Setup
2. Intermec MobileLAN 2100 Access Point
Delphi has a number of Intermec 2100 Access Points in
their installed base
These access points support two wireless
communication standards
802.11b (128bit-WEP)
Open Air

MDE Lab Infrastructure Setup
3. SAP Console Server
SAP Console converts the SAP GUI graphical interface to a
character interface to enable communication between wireless
devices and SAP.
The console supports the following character interfaces:
8x40
16x20

MDE Lab Infrastructure Setup
4. SAP Server

Standard SAP Logistics Execution Module is replaced by
Delphi by customizing to map Delphi Business process.
All the screens, master data and transactional data are
maintained in SAP.
SAP is the source of all information which MDE gets.

MDE Lab Infrastructure Setup
5. Loftware Print Server

Customized configuration needs to be done in SAP side
to connect to LPS and loftware printer.
Up to 500 printers can be addressed by a single
Loftware Print Server
There are DEV,QN and PN LPS Servers connected to
the respective SAP Servers.
MDE Lab Infrastructure Setup
6. Label Printers

Zebra printer (ZEBRA 170XiIII plus)
Intermec(UBI) Printer (Intermec 601 XP)

Thermal transfer printers are preferred to Direct Thermal
Printers since it supports long term storage of labels.
MDE Lab Infrastructure Setup
Zebra printer (ZEBRA 170XiIII plus)

Printer specifications include:
Has a six and a half inch print head (prints 6x4 labels)
Prints 300 dpi (dots per inch)
Uses thermal transfer
Connects through a direct network connection and/or RF connection
Prints in picket fence mode

MDE Lab Infrastructure Setup
Intermec(UBI) Printer (Intermec 601 XP)

Printer specifications include:
Has a 6 1/2 inch print head (prints 6x4 labels)
Prints 300 dpi (dots per inch)
Uses thermal transfer
Connects through a direct network connection and/or RF connection
Prints in picket fence mode

7. Intermec 730 Scanner

Mostly used for Barcode Data verification
Not connected with Access point, SAP in MDE

Shipping Labels from the Loftware thin client when SAP
is unreachable
Loftware System Down Databases are updated
periodically with the current data which is used for this
purpose

The Label Management Solution

Delete Label
Paper or ribbon out of alignment
Provides the ability to change the label status to
Delete in order to prevent further activity against it
The serial number is deactivated and will completely
locked from future use.
Serial number remains in the system for historical
purposes

Label Reprint

Allows to generate labels that were already created
Mostly Reprinting occurs when

Mfg to Customer Specific
Change of Customers
The Label Management Solution

Serial Number History Report
Transaction ZMDESNR
Provides the following features:
Generate Current status of the serial number
Generate the history of events affecting the serial number
If the serial number entered is a parent or a child the search will also
displays the current record of the other serial numbers linked to the
pallet if the Pallet/Children Option is checked

MDE Functionality Overview
Major Modules dealt with are :

Sales and Distribution
Materials Management
Production Planning
Label Management
MDE Functionality Overview
1. Sales and Distribution

Deals mostly with processes of Sales, Delivery and
Shipping
Major functionality is Delivery picking in MDE (from
Loading Start to Loading End).
MDE Functionality Overview
1. Sales and Distribution
Palletizing
1. Build Pallet
Provides the functionality to put items together and
track with one serial number
Pallets can be created specifically to a plant or Serial
nos of different plants also can be combined to a pallet.
MDE Functionality Overview
1. Sales and Distribution
Palletizing
2. Change pallet
Remove Serial number
Add serial number
Change Container
Master serial number doesnt change Only the
association of child serial numbers are changed
MDE Functionality Overview
1. Sales and Distribution
Palletizing

3. Scan to Match functionality
After creation of pallet, parent serial no and any of the child serial no
are scanned to see whether the info in the individual label matches

4. Non Standard Pallet
Unlimited number of containers can be combined into a single pallet
MDE Functionality Overview
1. Sales and Distribution
Verification

1. Second Party Verification
To validate the correct placement of the shipping label on the
existing manufacturing label.
2. 2D Barcode Verification
Allows to scan the serial number of the label and the 2D Barcode
and verify both of them

MDE Functionality Overview
1. Sales and Distribution
Verification

3. Scan to match
Verifies the pallet serial number information with the child serial
number. Plant configuration setting needs to be turned on.
4. Scan to truck
Ensures that the serial numbers scanned for the delivery/shipment
are loaded on to the correct truck
MDE Functionality Overview
2. Materials Management
Goods Receipt
Receive from vendor
1. With ASN
If an ASN is supplied, a material document is posted with the
details of the inbound delivery
2. Without ASN
GR is performed using the Purchase Order info
3. Manual ASN Creation
If no ASN info is available, MDE provides a functionality to
manually create ASN and receive the items.

MDE Functionality Overview
2. Materials Management
Goods Receipt
4. Interplant Receiving
GR is performed against the Outbound Delivery got from another
Delphi Plant

5. GR Label Print

GR Label is printed using the Material Document number which gets
created in the above processes
MDE Functionality Overview
2. Materials Management
Material Control

1. Transfer Posting
Deals with movement of items from one storage location to another

2. Storage Bin Transfer
Ability to move items stored in one storage bin to another in the
Warehouse

3. Production Planning
Manufacturing
1. Demand Printing
Different types of labels can be printed On Demand for
a particular plant
MDE Functionality Overview
3. Production Planning
Manufacturing
2.Backflushing
Backflushing of manufacturing items can occur using three
different methods:
On the shop floor via Scanning the MDE Serial no
Automatically when the label is requested
When the serial no is shipped
