SINGLE SPINDLE AUTOMATIC SCREW CUTTING MACHINE SWISS TYPE AUTOMATIC LATHES: Other name: SLIDING HEAD AUTOMATIC LATHE. Production: Long parts of small diameters (2 to 25mm) Accuracy: 0.005mm to 0.0125mm. Application: Parts to assemble wristwatches. Tools used in medicines.
PARTS: Sliding headstock Toolbracket Feed base Cam shaft SLIDING HEADSTOCK: Head stock has a collet. The barstock is held in the collet. The headstock slides along the guide ways of the bed. A bell cam connected to the camshaft controls this sliding motion.
TOOL BRACKET: The tool bracket is mounted on the bed way near the headstock. The tool bracket supports 4 or 5 tool slides. It also has a bush for supporting and guiding the bar stock. Two slides are positioned horizontally. The other slides are arranged above these slides. All the slides can move back and forth.
FEED BASE: The feed is mounted at the right side of the head stock. This can move along the bed. Using this attachments operation like drilling, boring, thread cutting etc. The movement of the feed base is controlled by the plate cam fitted to the camshaft. CAM SHAFT: The cam shaft is mounted at the front of the manchine. It has a bell cam at the end. This controls the sliding movement of the headstock. Plate cams fitted at the centre of the shaft controls the movement of the tool slides. Plate cam at the right end of the camshaft controls the movement of the feed base.
WORKING PRINCIPLE: ADVANTAGES: Wide range of speed is available (1000 to 10000rpm) It is rigid in construction. Micrometer tool setting is possible. Simple design of cam is enough. Numerous working stations are available.
SINGLE SPINDLE SCREW CUTTING MACHINE: It mainly consits of a cross slide and a turrent. Two cross slides one front cross slide and rear cross slide are for cross feeding. An vertical slide is also employed above the work spindle.
TURRENT SLIDE: The turrent slide is placed at the right end of the bed. It carries the turrent having six tool holes. The various tools used in the machine are mounted around the turret.
HEAD STOCK: In this machine, head stock is stationary. It consists of a which rotates in either direction. The bar stock is held in a chuck.
CAM SHAFT: A cam shaft is mounted at the front of the machine. It carries three plate cams. The plate cams control the travel of cross slides. The turret slide travel is controlled by a lead cam. The lead cam gives a slow forward and fast return movement to the turrent slide. The discs cams are used to control the cross slide. OPERATIONS: Drilling, turning, boring, threading, reaming, spot facing, knurling. With some attachment slotting work, milling flats, cross drilling etc. JOBS: stock round, square, hexagonal can be machined. APPLICATION: The general purpose single spindle automatic lathes are widely used for quantity or mass production (by machining) of high quality fasteners; bolts, screws, studs etc., bushings, pins, shafts, rollers, handles and similar small metallic parts from long bars or tubes of regular section and also often from separate small blanks. ADVANTAGES: Preferably and essentially used for larger volume of production Used always for producing jobs of rod, tubular or ring type and of relatively smaller size. Run fully automatically, including bar feeding and tool indexing, and continuously over a long duration Provided with upto five radial tool slides which are moved by cams mounted on a cam shaft Of relatively smaller size and power but have higher spindle speeds PRESENTED BY:
