DEACONESSES DEPARTMENT
FOCUS
THE FOCUS OF THE JUNE VALLEY SEVENTH-DAY
ADVENTIST CHURCH IS THE SPREADING OF THE
GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST AND THE SPIRITUAL
NURTURE OF ITS CHURCH MEMBERS.
QUALIFICATION REQUIRED
1. Must be a practicing baptized member of the
June Valley SDA Church
2. A comprehensive background about the SDA
Church organization
3. A strong commitment to the nurture and
salvation of the June Valley SDA church
members.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
The work of the Deaconess involves a wide range of
services for the church, including:
1. Greeting and welcoming guest and members In
many churches, deaconesses assist in greeting guest
and members in meetings and visiting member in
their home when they cannot attend services.
2. Assist at baptism Deaconesses ensure that female
candidates are cared for both before and after the
ceremony. They also give such counsel and help as
necessary regarding suitable garments for baptism.
Robes of suitable material should be provided. Where
robes are used, the deaconesses should see that they
are laundered and carefully stored.
3. Arrangement for Communion Service
Deaconesses and Deacons arrange for
everything needed for this service and see that
everything used is cared for afterwards. Before
the Communion Service begins, Deaconesses
make arrangement for the Communion Table,
including preparing the bread and wine,
arranging the ordinance table, pouring the wine,
placing the plate of unleavened bread, and
covering the table with the linen provided for
that purpose.
4. The Care for the Sick and the Poor
Deaconesses assist Deacons in caring for the
sick, needy, and unfortunate.
5. Care and Maintenance of Property in
churches where the responsibility for the care
and maintenance of church property is not
assigned to a building committee, deacons and
deaconesses have the responsibility.

BOARD OF DEACONESSSES
This Board is chaired by the Head Deaconess
and another Deaconess serves as the Secretary.
This Board is authorized to assign duties to
individual Deaconesses and cooperates closely
with the Board of Deacon especially in
welcoming members and visitors and in home
visitation. It also provide a training ground
where new Deaconesses are instructed in their
duties.
