Creative Media Production Project

Final Major Project

1 Creative Media Production 2011
CMPP
The Creative Media Production Project is your final project to complete
on this course.

It is similar to the others you have already done in Video, Print and
Advertising but it has one major difference.

You decide what your product will be.

You can make an advert, a print product or a video product.

What you make is up to you. How you make it is up to you.
2 Creative Media Production 2011
CMPP
You will use all of your lessons to get the project completed.

You can work in small groups.

CMPP
You need to write a proposal document
You need to think about legal and ethical considerations
You will need to think about codes of practice
You will need to break the project down in to individual tasks.
You will need to plan how you will do things
You will need to plan the resources you need
You will need to think about health and safety and carry out a risk
assessment
You will need to carry out some research on existing products
You will need to draft flat plans, scripts or storyboards
You will need to produce a production schedule
You will need to create a high quality product which realises you
intentions
You will have to evaluate your work.

Stage 1: Proposal

You need to decide on what your product will be. You could brainstorm
some ideas first or you might already know what you want to make.

If you are working in a group, a brainstorming session might be a good
idea so that everyone can share their thoughts.

Once you have decided on your product you need to fill in a proposal.

There is a proposal sheet on Blackboard for you to fill in.

Stage 1: Proposal

The proposal is important as it explains what you are going to make.

If you are working in a group you should all work on the proposal
although you only need to produce one for your group.

You should write down everything you want to make, so if you are
producing a film and a poster and a dvd cover then put all of this in your
proposal.

CMPP
Stage 1: Proposal

There are different pieces of information you need to decide on in your
proposal. There is also an example proposal document on Blackboard to
help you fill it in.

Format: The type of product you make(tv show, magazine article etc)
Working Title: A title for your project
Genre: What genre you are working in (horror, documentary etc)
Content: What will be in your product
Style or Approach: How your product will look and how you will make it
Audience: Who will be the audience for your product
Length: How long your product will be

Stage 1: Proposal

You also need to think about the legal and ethical issues related to you
work (age restrictions, copyright etc) and any codes of practice you should
follow.

For example:

Video work might require you to look at BBC guidelines

Promotion or advertising work you would need to look at advertising
standards

If you are producing a magazine then you should look press codes of
conduct

Stage 2: Pre-production

Pre production is one of the most important parts of the project.

It is where you look at what already exists that is similar to your product.

Then you work out what needs to be done and, if you are working in a
group who will do what.

You will plan your product, with storyboards, flat plans, mood boards,
shot list etc

You will organise the locations, actors, risk assesments etc.

The exact work you need to produce depends on the product you have
decide to make but there are general guidelines for working in print or

You work should follow your proposal in terms of:

Stage 4: Evaluation

You will have to evaluate your finished product. You will compare it
with original proposal to see how close your product is to your
initial plans.

You will think about how appropriate it is for its audience.

You will evaluate the technical (how well made it is) and the
aesthetic (how it looks) qualities and content and style of your final
product

CMPP
You will evaluate the production process you went through. This includes looking
at the pre-production work you did such as research and planning.

You will evaluate your production, looking at time management, creative ability,
and teamwork.

You will use different sources of information for your evaluation. This could mean
looking at your original ideas, notes from meetings, drafts and production logs.

You might also use comments from others including your potential audience,
others in the class and tutors
