Gerund(-ing form) When verb functions as subject or object we use gerund i.e. ing form of the verb. Example: Walking is the best exercise. I hate cheating. I like -----[sing] He knows -----[repair] TV.
The gerund (-ing form) must be used when a verb comes after a preposition:- against | at | after | by | on | instead of | talk about | tired of | without

Verbs that are normally followed by the gerund form:-

Participles
(-ing form and past participle) When the action is going on, we use ing form as adjective. Example: A barking dog chased us.
Participles When the action is over, we use past participle as adjective. Example: I collect used tickets.
Participles -----[bark] dogs seldom bite. Our teacher scolded ----[quarrel] children. -----[smile] face attracts all. I teach ----[speak] English. She gave me ----[tear] book. Mummy gave her a ----[dance] doll.
Infinitive Infinitive is used to show purpose. Example: I went to market to buy a book. Infinitive is also used in different meanings. Example : This is proper place - --[park]
Infinitive Edison was eager -----[study]. I want -----[become] a collector. Papa was happy -----[see] my result. They are clever enough ---[deal] with the situation. That girl is too dull ---[pass] the examination. We are ready to ---[reap] the crop.
