common Indian culture to serve as a basis
for a national curriculum?

traditional culture values or values of
modernization?
What aspect of traditional culture should be
retained and what should be remove?

subcultures be presented in common

Criticism of Common Curriculum
Prof. G.H. Bantock

Culture
HIGH LOW
HIGH CULTURE has an
essentially academic and literary
tradition.

LOW CULTURE - has as an
essentially folk or non literary
tradition.
Compulsory education based on the
common curriculum has failed!
Because we have attempted
to force literary culture down the
throats of the masses whose
tradition basically an oral one.
- A pluralistic Society has to build it upon to
the elements that are common to the various
subcultures that together make up the total culture
of the society besides making adequate provision
for the preservation of identities of the different
subcultural groups. The curriculum should also take
a pulls of different social classes and it should be so
designed that it does not act unfair to the interest
of the lower socio economic classes. In the name of
transmission of culture it should not act as vehicle
of domination of middle class values.
