SYSTEM
System is any group of components
(functions, people, activities and events) that
interface with and compliment one another to
achieve one of more predefined goals. A
system exists within a defined boundary
including all components of the system,
components that provide input to the system
and which is influenced by output from the
system.
INFORMATION
SYSTEM
Hardware, software, people, procedures, and
data are combined to create an information

reference to a computer-based system that
provides data processing capabilities for a
department or an entire company and
information that people need to make better,
more informed decisions.

SCOPE OF COMPUTERS AND
INFORMATION PROCESSING
The fascinating field of computers and
information processing encompasses
everything that deals directly or indirectly with
the computer-assisted form of information.
The scope of the field includes everything
from word processing to industrial robots to
supercomputers to management information
system. The management information system
or MIS for short, is commonly used in the
business environment as a generic reference to
all technologies, procedures, systems and
people associated with computers and
information processing.

INFORMATION EXPLOSION

Until the past 25 years or so, managers almost never
felt that they have enough information to make
decisions. In the 1950s a manager could send a term of
researchers to the local library; even then, much of the
data, would not be current. Todays manager are often
burdened, not with a lack of information, but rather from
information overload.

base, graphics and computer language.
COMPUTER IMPACT ON
MANAGERIAL ACTIVITIES
By Dr. Ronald M. Pastrana where MIS or management
information system is the process of providing the manager with
the right information, at the right time, on the right uses, and at
least cost.
