Introduction

What?
FAST = FormAtting inputs Simply for comet and model Tools
FAST = Excel template + 1 new menu (called... FAST!)
FAST can be used to feed COMET, MODEL and LKB tools
FAST is a 2G tool
Why?
Speeds up the BSS dimensioning process
There are less and less projects for new 2G networks...
...but more and more for network extensions, densification...
...or EDGE activation!
Allows the designer to focus on his design rather than on his tools
When?
FAST is adapted:
For a project with an existing network
To generate quickly some rough BSS design from scratch

All Rights Reserved Alcatel-Lucent 2008, ND CC 20 | FAST v2.4.4 | September 2009
E1 can be chosen no matter the BSS release
E1-STM1 is available as transport option from B11 MR1 onwards
From B11 MR2 onwards it is possible to choose IPoEth as Transport Mode
IPoE1 can be used from B12 onwards
Note: A check is performed, verifying that the BSS Releases (in Traffic Profile sheet)
corresponding to the traffic profiles defined for cells, in SiteBoQ, respect the rules
mentioned above.
The Transport Mode is another criteria for differentiating site types
Ex:
S/ 1. 1.g:B10 MR2:LKB_900_DU/ E1

All Rights Reserved Alcatel-Lucent 2008, ND CC 22 | FAST v2.4.4 | September 2009
Data of existing networks is often an Excel or CSV file:
Working files of the operators
Export of the OMC

If data is presented:
Site per site
1. Use simple copy paste by values
2. Copy the format to all new lines
3. Use the Automatic fill names function
Cell per cell
1. Use the import functionality

Check Inputs

For each site (i.e. each row) of the Site

6
All Rights Reserved Alcatel-Lucent 2008, ND CC 35 | FAST v2.4.4 | September 2009
Replace DCS-only by GSM

For each site (i.e. each row) of the Site
BoQ sheet, check if all its cells are DCS-
only ones (Frequency Band = DCS or
dcs1800).
If yes, change them to GSM-only ones
(Frequency Band = GSM)

Traffic Profiles
7
All Rights Reserved Alcatel-Lucent 2008, ND CC 37 | FAST v2.4.4 | September 2009
Traffic Profiles (1/3)

When no info available on the traffic profile, use the default traffic profile
Three traffic profiles (Conservative, Standard, Aggressive) are predefined in
the tool
See (hidden) Low, Medium and High sheets for more details
If info available, edit your own traffic mix:
As many as needed
Each cell has a traffic profile
All Rights Reserved Alcatel-Lucent 2008, ND CC 38 | FAST v2.4.4 | September 2009
Traffic Profiles (2/3)

The Traffic profiles function initializes the
content of the Traffic Profiles sheet with the
pre-defined traffic profile selected by the user.

This pre-defined profile can then be manually
modified, duplicated (column copy/past), and
copies can be manually modified again

Finally, one Traffic Profile shall be defined for
each Traffic Profile name indicated in the Site
BoQ sheet
All Rights Reserved Alcatel-Lucent 2008, ND CC 39 | FAST v2.4.4 | September 2009
Traffic Profiles (3/3)

Each Traffic Profile is associated to a Cell Profile

For each Traffic Profile duplicated from a pre-defined one (column copy/paste),
following values are automatically computed according to the associated Cell
Profile name :
# TRX : value indicated by the 2 first digits of the Cell Profile name
Incl. # DR TRX : value indicated by the 2 digits after the first .
# TRX (inner) : value indicated by the 2 digits after the -
Incl. # DR TRX (inner) : value indicated by the 2 digits after the . following the -
Concentric/Multiband Cell :
Multiband : Cell Profile name with -, outer zone GSM (g), inner zone DCS (d)
Concentric : Cell Profile name with -, and not in previous case
None : other cases
Frequency Band : Band1 if outer zone GSM (g), Band2 else

Populate LKB
8
All Rights Reserved Alcatel-Lucent 2008, ND CC 41 | FAST v2.4.4 | September 2009
Populate LKB (1/2)

A LKB profile is pre-defined in the tool for each of the following couples (4 * 13 =
52 profiles) :
Frequency Bands :
850, 900, 1800, 1900
Morpho :
BU (BUildings), MU (MeanUrban), SU (SubUrban), DU (DenseUrban), RE (Residential),
VL (ViLlage), RU (RUral), IS (InduStrial), OU (OpeninUrban), FR
(FoRest), PK (ParKs), OA (OpenArea), WT (WaTer)
See (hidden) LKB Parameters sheet for more details
All Rights Reserved Alcatel-Lucent 2008, ND CC 42 | FAST v2.4.4 | September 2009
Populate LKB (2/2)

Associate default pre-defined LKB Profile(s) (Outer or Inner + Outer) to each
cell, and add this (those) pre-defined LKB profile(s) in the LKB Profiles sheet (if
not already existing)
LKB Profile(s) is (are) associated to a cell only if TRXs are defined for this cell
Following rules are applied according to Frequency Band :
GSM, p_gsm, e_gsm : LKB_900_morpho
DCS, dcs1800 : LKB_1800_morpho
gsm_dcs, e_gsm_dcs :
LKB Outer Profile : LKB_900_morpho
