Tujuan
Menghindari genangan
Mencegah erosi balast
Menjaga badan jalan kereta tetap stabil
Menjaga kuat dukung konstruksi
Dasar-dasar Perencanaan
Sejajar dengan jalan kereta api dibuat selokan
drainase di kiri dan kanan badan jalan.

Pada balast atau alas jalan bagian bawahnya
diberi konstruksi drain batu kosongan melintang
jalan dengan jarak antara 6 m diselang-seling
kiri dan kanan, untuk mengeringkan dengan
segera air hujan yang meresap.
Talud pada jalan kereta api di atas
timbunan harus pula dilindungi terhadap
erosi dengan membuat konstruksi drain
terbuka, batu kosongan yang dilapisi ijuk
untuk menjaga butir-butir tanah tidak ikut
larut terbawa air hujan. Konstruksi ini
berfungsi memperkuat talud. Drain batu
kosongan ini pada bagian bawahnya
disambung dengan selokan drainase yang
sejajar sumbu jalan.
Ke arah memanjang juga harus
diperhatikan mengenai
kemiringan selokan, minimal 2%,
maksimal 10 %. Jika kemiringan >
10% harus dibuat konstruksi
bertangga agar air hujan tidak
menimbulkan erosi.

wick pipe are pulled through,
the casing will be pulled out
leaving the wick pipe in its
