Mr. UMED SINGH

At the very outset, I am highly indebted to Dr. R.C.Ramola (Dean,
Faculty of Science and Technology), Dr. T.K.MANDAL (IP CO-
ORDINATOR) for giving me an opportunity to carry out my project at
esteemed organization. I would specially thank Mr. ABHISHEK
TRIPATHI (HR) for giving me time and guidance throughout the
project and I am personally thankful to Mr. JATIN (Senior
ENGINEER), for giving me such a great inspiration for successful
completion of my project without whom it would have been impossible
to attain success.
I would also like to express my profound sense of gratitude to Mr.
UMED SINGH (Faculty in Charge) who gave me guidance for
successful completion of report.

A bearing is a machine
element that constrains
relative motion and
reduces friction between
moving parts to only the
desired motion.
Generally speaking, a
bearing is a device that is
used to enable rotational or
linear movement, while
reducing friction and
handling stress
Rolling Contact
Bearings load is
transferred through
rolling elements such
as balls, straight and
tapered cylinders
and spherical rollers
Ball bearings
are extremely common because
they can handle both radial and
thrust loads, but can only
handle a small amount of
weight.
BALL BEARING
Roller bearings are designed to
carry heavy loadsthe primary
roller is a cylinder, which means
the load is distributed over a
larger area, enabling the
bearing to handle larger
amounts of weight.
This structure, however, means
the bearing can handle primarily
radial loads, but is not suited to
thrust loads

This style of bearing is
designed to handle large
radial and thrust loadsas a
result of their load versatility,
they are found in car hubs
due to the extreme amount
of both radial and thrust
loads that car wheels are
expected to carry.

CYLINDRICAL ROLLER BEARING
Cylindrical Roller Bearings are
separable radial roller Bearings.
Bearings are available with
pressed steel cage or machined
brass cage.
The Rollers and Cage assembly
is generally located on the
raceway having two integral
flanges and the other raceway is
separable.
Thus the O/R and I/R can be
mounted separately.
SPHERICAL ROLLER BEARING
Spherical roller bearings are
made for heavy-duty
applications.
They feature two rows of
symmetrical barrel rollers
which can align freely in the
spherical outer ring raceway,
thus compensating for shaft
deflections and misalignment
of the bearing seats.
.
Rollers is high carbon
high chromium i.e. SAE
52100. And for cage or
retainers low carbon
steel is used.
The material required for
Inner ring, outer ring and
roller is SAE 52100.
Chemical composition of
SAE 52100 is
Carbon -
0.95 to 1.05%
Silicon -
0.25 to 0.40%
Chromium -
1.40 to 1.60%
Sulphur -
0.020% max.
Phosphorous -
0.025% max.
Nickle - 0.35% max.
Copper - 0.25% max.
Lead - 0.02% max.
Material required for cages are cold rolled
carbon steel strip.
Chemical composition of CRCS strip is,
Carbon - 0.10%
Manganese - 0.25 to 0.50%
Sulphur - 0.40% max.
Phosphorous - 0.04% max.
Chromium - 0.10% max.
