stereotypical pop artists logo. The colours denoted are white and a dark
grey. These colours hold the connotations of unhappiness. This therefore is
asynchronous with the title of the song advertised which is My everything.
This juxtaposes with the colours as the colours do not connote the feeling of
my everything. The dominant reading, in Halls theory, of this could be that
there was a couple that have now broken up and the Female of the
relationship is now missing her partner and therefore sees him as my
everything and is upset whenever she thinks about him therefore connoting
the dark colours of the logo and advertisement of the release of this single.
This may appeal to the struggler psychographic profile as they would feel as
though they are struggling to get through the relationship and therefore
they would sympathize with Ariana as she may have gone through the same
experience. This therefore links into Blumler and Katz personal relationships
as it would build a relationship between the primary demographic of
females and Ariana. This subverts from
the conventions of a pop artists logo as a
pop artists logo would generally use a
bright house style as opposed to the
dull house style denoted in Arianas logo.
The layout of the logo is symmetrical
as the typography doesnt change
across the font on each line. This may
connote a formality about her album and that it is more sophisticated
compared to previous singles or albums. The title of Arianas single my
everything is denoted to be in a hand written font. This makes the logo
more unique in the terms that to the audience is will seem more
personalized and looks as though she wrote it herself. This may link into
Blumler and Katz uses and gratifications in the personal relationships
aspect as the audience may feel a connection to her as the typography is
more personalized to how she would want it. This would appeal to her
primary demographic as the font is connoted to be a hegemonic girly font
and therefore would appeal to those in her primary demographic of
teenage girls.
The symbolic code of colour is denoted to have used dark blue and an
off-gold. These are colours that are not typically used in this genre and
therefore subverts from the codes and conventions of this genre.
However, the colours used together do connote that the darker blue
has been encoded to connote the sky when it is late at night due to the
star in the sky that can be seen from the various white dots on the logo.
The starlit sky connotes romance as a couple, stereotypically in the
media, are associated with stargazing. This suggests that in Coldplays
newest album, romance will feature heavily. This will draw in an
audience of people that may have had an experience of this in their life
(stargazing with a loved one). This links into Blumler and Katz personal
relationship as the demographic will feel as though they are closer to
Coldplay due to having something in common with the band. This also
tells me that their primary demographic are females as they are more
romantically minded, stereotypically. The gold font could connote that
their music is first class and that they
have developed over the years that
they have been around and that their
music is more accessible to a wider
demographic of people therefore the
secondary demographic is
males and they are trying to
appeal to people of all ages.
The layout of the logo on the official website denotes the
band name and the name of the album side by side with a gold star
separating them. This connotes that the two are seen by the company
as just as important as the other in terms of advertisement as you
cant buy an album without knowing whos it is or the other way
around. The layout is also symmetrical as the font never changes
across both phrases . As the font is smooth and sophisticated this
could connote that the band also hold these ideals, and therefore
drawing in an aspirer psychographic profile as they may want to hold
the same ideals as the band so they can be as successful as them.
This links into Maslows hierarchy of needs in self-actualization as the
demographic will want to be like them or they have already identified
that they are which in that case links into personal relationships in
Blumler and Katz uses and gratifications theory.
