Interlocking
The purpose of the interlocking function is:

To avoid dangerous or damaging switchgear operations and

to assure personnel safety

ABB Power Technologies AB, 2005

The features are:

2006-03-30
3

Distributed functionality, not depending on a central function

Standardized and well-proven software modules for easy

and safe implementation

Information exchange over the station bus, which means

minimizing of cabling between IEDs

Interlocking conditions depend on the circuit configuration

and apparatus position status at any given time

Substation Automation Products Training

Interlocking
The interlocking modules are
based on these basic principles:

ABB Power Technologies AB, 2005

2006-03-30
4

Disconnectors shall not be

opened or closed on-load
Earthing switches shall not be
closed onto voltage
CB:s shall not be closed when
surrounding disconnectors are in
intermediate positions
CB opening is only interlocked at
a bus-coupler bay, if a busbar
transfer is in progress
