Research Methodology

Research Design
The descriptive-survey design will be employed
in the study since this study will attempt to
determine the effects of time spent on Facebook to
the study habits of Education students of Cagayan
State University-Lal-lo.
This method will be used because it is designed
to gather information about people and perceptions.
Moreover, the profile of the respondents and the
data gathered were being analyzed, after which the
results were described and interpreted accordingly.

Locale of the Study

The study will be conducted in the College

of Education Department at Cagayan State
University-Lal-lo. The college has 420 students,
12 regular teachers and 3 lecturers. Cagayan
State University of Lal-lo is 2.7km away from
the National Road. This school is chosen as venue
of the research because the researchers are
presently studying in the said school.

Respondents and Sampling Techniques
The respondents are the Sophomore Teacher
Education Students of Cagayan State University-Lallo for the school year 2014-2015 will be utilized in
this study. A total of 90 BSEd and 25 BEEd
students are enrolled this school year. Purposiverandom sampling technique will be used in
determining the respondents for the BEEd curriculum
and BSEd curriculum.

Research Instruments

To gather the needed data, the researcher will use the

questionnaire and interview methods.
The questionnaire, according to Best (1989), is a
direct way of knowing peoples feelings, experiences, thoughts,
and motives behind their behaviors. It is the term used for
almost any instrument on which individual responses is
recorded.

The interview will be used as supplementary source of data.

The researchers will make use of unstructured interview, which
is face-to-face, verbal and allow direct instruction between the
respondent and the researcher.

Collection of Data

As a matter of protocol, the researchers will first

secure the permission from the associate Dean of the
College of Teacher Education to conduct the study.
When it will be approved, the researchers will personally
float the questionnaire and will conduct personal
interview to the respondents to validate their views.
The questionnaire will be relieved immediately to avoid
loss and delay.

Analysis of Data

The gathered data will be tallied, tabulated,

analyzed and interpreted using the frequency counts
and percentage distribution.

For the analysis of the effect of Facebook use on

the study habits of the respondents, mean
computation will be employed. The mean computation
to be used is the 4-point Likert Scale.

The equivalent verbal descriptions of the weighted means

will be determined by employing the following table:

CHAPTER V

Summary, Conclusion And Recommendations

Summary:
This study was conducted to achieve two goals:
(a) to determine the number of hours spend

during weekdays and weekends in using

Facebook, and

(b) to identify the effect/s of using Facebook to

the study habits of Sophomore Education

students of Cagayan State University Lal-lo
Campus.

Summary:
It used the descriptive survey design with 40

respondents chosen randomly. Data were

gathered using a questionnaire and interview.
The gathered data will be tallied, tabulated,
analyzed and interpreted using the frequency
counts and percentage distribution. For the
analysis of the effect of Facebook distraction
on the study habits of the respondents, mean
computation will be employed. The mean
computation to be used is the 4-point Likert
Scale (Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree, and
Strongly Disagree).

Conclusions

Through the data gathering and analysis of information, the researchers

have concluded that most of the respondents are female, and they are just
in the right age for taking tertiary education. In terms of Parents
occupation, most of their fathers are farming and their mothers are
unemployed (housekeeping).

On the other hand, in terms of their general average, most of the

respondents answered that their general average last 2nd semester was 8589. Most of the respondents spent 1 to 2 hours in studying their lessons.

Conclusions
We found also that most of the respondents accessed

their Facebook account daily for 1 to 2 hours. The

researchers have therefore concluded that Facebook
possess appealing and strong factors which lead
students to hook with.

Messaging, keeping in touch with friends and checking

news feeds and notifications are their usual purposes

in logging to Facebook, and cellphone is their widely
used gadget in logging to Facebook.

Badly, majority of the respondents said that Facebook

replace their time of studying, and it is a distraction to their

studies. According to them, they were procrastinated and
were distracted from school works because they exchange their
time of studying to Facebook. Moreover, Facebook addiction
affects the study habits of the sophomore education students
from their studies negatively, majority of them answered that
it affects their studies to a moderate extent, and it
contributes to their studies to a lesser extent.

Hence,

the modern era has really affected everyones

normal routines life. When you are just about to study or

sleep, you update your status or post pictures which make it
so unusual in todays generation. This Facebook become part
of a students daily routine, however too much addiction to

it can cause distraction to their studies. Time management

and discipline must be considered to have good study habits
and to succeed in life.

Recommendations:

On the basis of the findings and conclusions of the study, the

following recommendations are offered:

1.

Students

should

spend

more

time

in

studying

than

using

Facebook.
2. Students should study daily.
3. Students should pay more attention in studying.
4. Parents should give more time to guide and limit their children.
For the researchers who will be studying this research, they should
study deeper about this.

Thank you!
