ABOUT AIR INDIA


Air India is the flag carrier airline of India owned by
the government run Air India Limited (AIL).
It is headquartered at the Indian Airlines House in New Delhi.
The airline operates a fleet of Airbus and Boeing aircraft serving
various domestic and international airports.
Air India is currently at the fourth place in the Indian domestic aviation
sector.
Air India serves 60 domestic destinations and 31 international
destinations in 19 countries

IMPLEMENTATION OF SAP (ERP) PROJECT


SAP is a change enabler rather than a change driver.
SAP is the largest provider of ERP solutions world-wide and has been
preferred by more than 115 airlines.
SAP solutions support core business of airlines in passenger services
planning and development and MRO (maintenance, repair and
overhaul) functions.
SAP ERP package helped Air India in strategic decision-making,
monitoring and control systems.

Airline could aim for improved profitability by availability of realtime information on route network and profitability
It helped in reduction in costs especially in inventories across various
areas
Package also helped in seamless integration with other systems and
ensuring availability and consolidation of critical data and
information.

BUSINESS PROCESSES USING IT


Document management system:
After implementing DMS Air India got benefited in terms of
QUALITY,COLLABORATION,ACCESSIBILTY,COSTEFFECTIVENESS and USABILITY comparing to its near
competitors.
Flight Planning system :
Nacil implemented a computerized flight planning system that would
save about Rs950 Crore. It was implemented in 2008 and at that time
Air India was the NO 1 airline company of the country.

Passenger Service System
Air India implemented a unified code for both the domestic and
international services across its network.
A unified AI code enabled a single ticket reservation system as two
codes across its network was causing inconvenience to passengers.
Advantages of the system were all services being extended by a single
service provider; automated baggage reconciliation; kiosk check-in
across the network; and mobile check-ins.
Web based customer feedback and monitoring application, web based
application for medical service, and bilingual web sites put an edge to
the systems of air India.

Mobile Phone Booking Facility
Tele-booking of Air India ticket through their mobile phone by using a
one-time downloadable Ngpay software.
The passenger needs only to sms 'ngpay' to 56767 and download the
free Ngpay software from ngpay.com on a GPRS-enabled handset.
The software which takes up between 65 to 80 kb spaces.
PFAS
A user-friendly web based system for online retrieval of passenger
flown history using the DCS history file from SITA PSS System
(XML).
. This system is a query based online system available to users
connected on Air India internal network.

The use of Real-Time Dynamic Pricing Engine positions airlines to
adapt inventory controls and allows integrated controls for selling over
e-commerce channels.
Revenue Management System (RMS) enhances airline revenues by
optimizing traffic and yield mix with the help of past data, current
trends, and demand forecast for different flights, segments and fares.

flights for check-in and also auto PNL creation of Haj Pilgrims handled
by AI

FUTURE WITH IT/IS


Air India Ltd plans to upgrade the software in all its 10 Boeing 787
Dreamliner jets from December, saying that the process will not lead
to the planes being grounded for long.
The 787 has suffered a series of glitches since it was introduced two
years ago, including overheating batteries that prompted regulators
to ground the entire global fleet in January.
