developed
by
several
philosophers such as Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Jean Jacques
Rousseau and others. But for our course, we only discuss recently
philosopher as John Rawls.
According to Rawls, the principles of justice are those that equal,
rational, self-interested individuals would choose as term of a social
contract for themselves and their
descendants.
Rawls postulates a fundamental, pre-political original position
where
this choice would be made.
In the original position all people act under the veil of ignorance.
Although parties in the original position do not know their
conception of the good nor any specific needs and desires,
they
realize that they desire as much as possible of primary social goods.
