Configuring the audio settings

The Lync client will automatically select and configure the best audio
device plugged into the PC as the default device.

Lync detects all of the audio devices plugged into the PC and allows you
to switch devices before and during a call.

When a audio device is selected, Lync will properly configure the speaker
and microphone of the device.

The Check Call Quality feature should be used as a test to hear how
you sound by recording a brief message an having it played back to you.

There should be no need for you to make any modifications in the

Windows sound settings.

Configuring the audio settings

Lync does a good job at configuring the audio
device settings. But you can go into the audio
service configuration settings to do fine tuning
such as:

15

Modifying and testing the speaker, ringer

and microphone sound levels,
Checking your call quality,
Configuring the secondary ringer so that two
connected audio devices ring when you have
an inbound call.

How do External Participants join a Lync call?

For Audio: Dial a local number provided in the meeting invite
Tips for Content Sharing & Audio:

29

The best overall experience is: Have the participant join via Lync 2010 or Lync 2013 if it is already installed on the
their PC. The user can join via federation if they have an account through their own company. To check, try adding
the external user in your Lync contacts. If you see presence status, then they can join via Lync.

The second recommendation would be to install the Lync 2010 attendee on the PC. This allows the external
participant to join meetings without having to log into a client. Here are the links - http://www.microsoft.com/enus/download/details.aspx?id=23396 and http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=15755.

If the user has Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, the user can install the Lync client from the Windows store for free. The
Lync client from the Windows store allows you to join a meeting as a guest without logging into the corporate
credentials. See http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/lync-help/join-and-exit-a-lync-meeting-HA103151611.aspx.

Finally, if the user has a compatible browser and OS, the user can join and see content from the Lync web app. This is
the web interface. All functionality is enabled for HP and assuming that the users OS, browser and PC are correct,
the user can see shared content and even share their own content once the plug-in is installed.
