*
*An image processing operation typically defines a new image g in
terms of an existing image f.

*Image processing basically includes three steps:

Importing the image
Analysing and manipulating the image
Output

*Purpose of Image processing

Visualization
Image sharpening
Image retrieval

*Applications

*
*Simulation and recognition of faces as one ages has recently been
gaining popularity as a topic in biometrics literature

*Used for solving scientific problem and also sub problem where
claimed id and enrolled id differs

*How structure and how appearance vary over age helps to find age.
*Age estimation is generally formulated as regression problem

between features extracted from face image and the age variable.

*
* Previous methods require manual separation of males &
females prior to age estimation

*Automatic age estimation on aging patterns- always insufficient

data for learning hence inefficient output

*No clear relation yet between age estimation & facial

expression changes

*Generally age estimation problem is solved by using a single

regression model which is not effective

*
*In this system we use hierarchical approach in which we learn
a separate regression model for each age group

*In this system we are considering

problem of automatic age

estimation

*First classify Given a test image in the appropriate age group

*Then we learn a separate regression model for each age
group.

*Hierarchical approach provides much better age estimation

results than using a single regression model for all ages.

Feature Extraction

Learning Regression Model

CLASSIFICATION

*
I.

Feature Extraction:

Transforming the input data into the set of features is called

feature extraction.
The features set will extract the relevant information
from the input data.
Desired task can be performed with this reduced
representation.

*
I.

Feature Extraction:

We extract geometric
features from the face
image.
These features are based
on the landmark 2D
points.
They can be reliably
located on the most faces.

*
II. Learning Regression Model :
Regression analysis is a statistical process for estimating
the relationships among the features extracted.

We learn a separate RVM regression model for each age

group.

The relevance vector machine (RVM) is a bayesian sparse

technique for regression and classification

*
III. Classification Into One Of The Age Groups:

Automatic classification of the test subject into one of

the age groups using multiple classifiers.

We use following classifiers:

Partial least squares(PLS)

Nearest neighbour
Naive bayes
Fisher linear discriminant

Majority

rule is used to obtain the final classification.
