A Report on the Performance


Management System at Maruti Suzuki
India Limited

PROJECT-I
Project Objectives:
1. Studying the process of Performance and Potential Management at
Maruti Suzuki India Limited; to enhance my understanding of this
subject by doing some study & research,

2. Measuring the effectiveness of the current Performance Management


System; suggesting measures for its improvement. Includes
surveying non-executives and executives at MSIL.

3. Benchmarking the Performance management System at Maruti with


other best known practitioners of the same, across various industries.

4. Devising and implementing an online Performance Management


System at Maruti Suzuki India Limited.
Thus, through this project report one can:

• have a reasonable understanding of the process of performance


appraisal;
• understand what needs to be done for its effective implementation;
• know the key areas of performance indicators;
• understand the benefits of the system;
• know how it helps in planning of career of employees;
• know how it helps in the future requirement of the organization as it
grows;
• Compare and contrast the Performance Management Systems at
Maruti with other organizations;
• Understand how to devise an online Performance Management
System and effectively implement it.
Methodology
3 stages:-
i. Firstly, a structured questionnaire was developed,
tested and finalized.
ii. Secondly, the questionnaire was administered
personally to the employees at MSIL.
iii. The work relating to data entry compilation, data
analysis and report writing constitutes the third
stage.
Survey conducted on the following divisional areas:-

Sample Size: 100 employees (executives & non-executives)


For comparative analysis (benchmarking), the
following parameters have been taken:

1. Frequency of Performance Appraisal


2. Focus of Performance Appraisal - goals,
competencies, targets, productivity
3. Methods of Appraisal
4. Performance parameters- tasks or competencies.
5. Rating system
6. Below average performers and their treatment
7. Feedback mechanism
8. Rewards
Data collection method
• Primary sources : Surveys through questionnaires
and personal interviews with 1.employees within the
company
2.employees of other companies (for benchmarking);
• Secondary Sources- Books, magazines, Journals,
Internet;
• Studying and analyzing exit interviews to find out the
number of exits due to dissatisfaction (if any) with the
PMS of Maruti.
• Through Unpublished sources available at the company;
• Intranet.
