What is a DRE?
D.R.E is an acronym for Design Release Engineer.
They are responsible for a number of tasks including:
Leading Product Development Teams (PDTs) and PDT
meetings
Assisting with the definition of system and hardware
requirements
Is the knowledgeable subject matter expert of the
component or sub-system which they release
Complies with all GM policies, safety procedures, and
contractual and legal agreements
Is responsible for meeting program milestones and
balancing program imperatives for their component or
sub-system
Ensures adherence to design and best practice
standards
Ensures the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP)
milestone deliverables are completed on time and with
excellence

Design Failure Modes Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
Design Reviews Based on Failure Modes (DRBFM)
Design Reviews Based on Test Results (DRBTR)

Note:
If the Supplier owns the component
DFMEA, DRBFM and DRBTR, the GM DRE
is still responsible for reviewing and
approving all of these documents
