ALIVE RADIATION

DETECTION USING PIR


SENSOR

ABSTRACT
This project is to find out the human being
survival in War field. The project consists of a robot with
an IR based human radiation sensor, which picks up
signals from human radiations and gives a signal output.
Whenever any human being comes in the vicinity of the
system the IR system gives a signal. The movement of the
robot can be controlled through an RF transmitter. The
Robot can controlled through PC with Radio Frequency and
also monitoring robot movement by using web cam.

Need for the system

During emergency situations, many different people are


deployed (policeman, fire fighters and medical assistance).

They must determine the location, status of victims and the


stability of the structures as quickly as possible so that
medics and fire-fighters can enter the disaster area and save
victims.

All of these tasks are performed mostly by human and trained


dogs, often in very dangerous and risky situations.

The rescuer may become a victim who needs to be rescued.

Present System

The present system needs to check

Heart beat

This can be measured at nearby proximity only, so the field


work is more (or)

Every individual has to bear a sensor and a transmitter. So


the quantity get increases which proportionally increases
the cost.

Proposed System

It is an advanced system where PIR(Passive Infra red)


sensor based robots are used.

The PIR sensor gives signal to the microcontroller in case of


any survival and the alarm or a message is given to the
corresponding.

Advantages:
The system uses Robot with PIR sensors helps to
detect the Human Body radiations as it move around the
field desired and so it reduces the field work.

Implementation Procedure

Sensing Part

The IR radiation from human body is sensed by PIR(Passive


Infra Red) sensor

The data from the sensor is obtained by Micro-controller.

Transmission and reception is done through ZigBee, which


is one of the Advanced Wireless Technology at present.

Thermal Radiation

Normal body temperature of a human-being is 37*C

Every alive human-body emits radiation in the Infrared


region in the electromagnetic spectrum

After death, body temperature decreases by 1.5*C per hour

Passive Infra-Red sensor(PIR)

Measures infrared light radiating from objects in its field of


view

Detects the presence of a person which is different in


temperature from the surroundings

A threshold temperature is set to differentiate between


alive and dead

ZigBee is a wireless communication protocol for low power,


low rate, reliable, and secured wireless network.

It developed by ZigBee Alliance based on IEEE 802.15.4


standard.

A ZigBee network is a multi-hop network with batterypowered devices.

CC2431 is the first single chip IEEE 802.15.4 compliant and


ZigBee System on Chip (SoC) RF transceiver with
integrated microcontroller.

coordinator attached to the PC

then processed using MATLAB

Motion Part

The motion part consists of a robot, RF transceiver and a


wireless camera

Its motion is Controlled using RF transmitter and receiver.

The RF Transceiver uses RF modules of high speed data


transmission (up to 100GHz)

According to the button pressed, a corresponding signal is


sent to RF receiver at robotic vehicle.

The sensor part is placed on the robot which covers the


field of detection

DC motor and Camera

The wheels of the robot is connected to DC motor which is


controlled by the driver circuit (relay)

Signal from RF receiver is decoded and fed to the microcontroller which drives the driver circuit

A wireless camera is attached to the robot which gives the


field view

The video is received by radio AV receiver

Data analyzing

In PC with the Windows platform, the data from zigbee


coordinator was read through serial port using RS 232

The data is obtained using MATLAB, the command for the


underlying operation is given below

Serial(port) and fscanf

The data is compared with the optimum values and a


notification is displayed

Applications

War field

If there is a need to send a rescue team, we have to


check for any live human-being. In that case, the robotic
sensor is used

Surveillance is done through the camera present in the


robot

By adding a proximity sensor, it could be used to detect


mines in the war field

Future Works

Hardware :

An IR camera which captures IR video data and it is provided with

could

measure

temperature of a warm object and its proximity

The robot made compact and an improvisation in its motion part


makes it easy to move through rough path like collapsed buildings,
etc

Automatize the robot to reduce user attention

Software :

Converting from periodic data processing to real-time data


processing gives a better analysis of the given area.

Conclusion
The goal of this project is to provide a sensor suite for
human detection in the urban disaster environment. This
experiment is efficient to find victims. This experiment
minimizes the cost and maximizes benefits. To have a
better quality of human detection, it would be a good
solution to add a long distance sensor.
