are formulated, is
lengthy and
time consuming. The entire process of plan
preparation and its approval by State Govts, takes between three
to five years in general, and often more. Such delays render the
entire exercise of Master Plan preparation obsolete, as
the
very
basis
of information on which these plans are
prepared becomes outdated by the time these plans become
implementable and as an outcome results in delays in Master
Plan formulation
Non-availability of latest base maps resulted in great
difficulties in field data collection.
Lack of adequate system of maintaining a data base
hampered the informed decision making by the local
authorities.
Manual graphic presentations were difficult and thus
were limited where as production of maps and visual data
can be more easily understood and comprehended by
common people.
No efficient system of data storage and retrieval, the
monitoring of the master plan was extremely difficult.
Data sharing and coordination among the line departments
is very poor

area,
It is the basis for making rational planning
decisions. Use of Satellite Images, Aerial
Photos
and GIS can support this very
effectively and also help in quick analysis of
land form, soil,
vegetation,
settlement
pattern etc. on the basis of which
strategies and proposals for a horizon year
may be developed.
