A Small Contribution in Energy Market

Designing, Manufacturing & Implementation of more than 220
Units in four years ranging from 5KW to 800KW, through
different technology- (Contributed Approx: 05MW via micro
hydel units in far flung areas and for rural communities)
Domestic Market Development (Increase in workmanship)
Technology Advancement- Signing of MoUs with different
Chinese Manufacturers for technology and larger projects Innovations- Trained more than 20 Bsc engineers (Civil, Elec &
Mech), Trained more than 23 Associate Engineers- Trained
more than 300 Plant Operators from 10 Districts of KPK.
Research & Development with different Engineering
universities for economic empowerment and new technology
development. Kaplan (Low Head Technology) is the success
story with the coordination of GIK Institute.

CHALLENGES

- Lack of Technology for larger manufacturing

- More rely on import of hydel equipments
- Preferences on Domestic Market Development
- Preferences on Local Technology Development
- More paper works and less implementation
-Government Support to local industry

Micro Hydel Projects

Market Potential

Government Organizations:
To meet the energy crisis in Pakistan, the Government of
KPK has announced 356 Micro/Mini Hydel Projects, which
are to be completed in the next two years- which will
fulfill the short time needs of the communities.
Non-Governmental Organizations
- More than 300 Micro/Mini hydro power projects are
under construction under Donor funded Projects. i.e.
EU/PPAF
Others: etc
- Potential Market is more than expected..and more
Implementing organizations are expected to

University-Industry Bridge
Signed MoU with GIK Institute Mechanical faculty in
2011- for research & development- final year
Mechanical projects- (development of Francis,
Pelton, Crossflow, Kaplan)
Signed MoU with UoG in 2012 research projects
(Induction Motor as alternator one of achievement)
Working with Wah Engineering College in FYPs.
Pelton/Xflow Testing Bench successful story
Ongoing Discussion with NUST & UET Taxila for
R&D and final year projects.
Engineers can bring in innovation in this sector- we
highly encourage engineers to do research in the
sector- as there is future of hydro power in Pakistan
