Introduction
Groundwater also known as subsurface water is very

vital component of hydrologic cycle and it is located

beneath the earth surface.

It is mainly used for drinking , irrigation , domestic and

industrial purposes.

Delineation of potential groundwater zones helps in

development, management, and conservation of

groundwater.

OBJECTIVE

To prepare required thematic maps using remote sensing

data , existing maps and data from other sources with the
help of GIS.

To prepare groundwater prospect map using different

thematic layers.

Scope

Ground water is a primary resource in an area of

heavy cultivatable land and abrupt industrial
development.
Though the precipitation satisfies the
requirement up to some extent, the only way to
full fill most domestic needs is groundwater.
The National Water Policy adopted by the government of INDIA in 1987 and
revised in 2002, regards water as one of the most crucial elements in
developmental planning.

Advantages
Many large capacity sites are available for recharge.
Slight to no evaporation losses.
Require little land area for developing artificial

recharge structures.
High biological purity.
Safe from immediate radioactive fallout.

What is GIS
A geographic information system (GIS) is a computer
system for capturing, storing, checking, and displaying
data related to positions on Earths surface. GIS can
show many different kinds of data on one map. This
enables people to more easily see, analyze, and
understand patterns and relationships.

Use of GIS
Maps have always been used as source of information.
In computer age GIS has evolved as powerful tool for
representing geographical information with many
other uses.

Weighted Overlay Analysis

Weighted Overlay is one of the Overlay Analysis tools
included in the Spatial Analyst extension
It is commonly is used to solve multicriteria problems
such as optimal site selection or suitability modelling
It is a technique for applying a common scale of values
to diverse and dissimilar inputs to create an integrated
analysis
