The Air Driven Engine is an eco-friendly engine.
An Air Driven Engine uses the expansion of compressed air to drive the
pistons of an engine.
An Air Driven Engine is a pneumatic actuator.
There is no mixing of fuel with air as there is no combustion.
HISTORY
Charles B. Hodges will always be remembered as the true father
of the compressed air concept applied to cars.
MDI uses CAE engine that have tanks to hold about 3200 cubic feet
(90.6 kl.) of compressed air.
PURPOSE
Gasoline is becoming more expensive and
impractical.
It is also damaging to the environment.
It is not a renewable resource, it will
eventually run out.
Air powered cars run on compressed air instead
of gasoline with zero pollution.

TECHNOLOGY
Storing energy in the form of compressed air, using new
materials such as carbon fibre and vegetable oil.
System of articulated conrods that allow the piston to pause
at top dead center.
The car engine runs on compressed air and incorporates the
three laws of thermodynamics.

ADVANTAGES
Refuelling can be done at home using an air compressor or at
service station .
Compressed air engines reduce the cost of vehicle production.
Reduction or elimination of hazardous chemical such as
gasoline or battery acid/metals.
LIMITATIONS
The vehicles air compressor will probably run on gasoline
and this gas will produce pollution when burned.
Distance could also become a disadvantage ( less than 200
miles ).
If an air car suffer a damage in accident, compressed air tanks
can be dangerous.
Refuelling the compressed-air container using a home or lowend conventional air compressor may take as long as 4 hours.
FUTURE SCENARIO
Indias TATA motors will also use cae engine to produce air
car within few years as announce by aug. 2008.
ZPM also plans to produce same vehicle in usa.
Air car factories in SA has its cae engine in development
process.
