There are different


types of Musical
instruments of
Mindanao. These are:

Kulintang

It is composed of a row of small,


horizontally-laid brass gongs that
functions melodically. It is played by
striking the bosses of the gongs with two
wooden beaters. The players sit on
chairs or on the floor while playing the
instruments.

Kulintang A Kayo
Is a Maguindanaon xylophone, literally
translated to mean wooden kulintang or
kulintang made of wood. To make a
sound, the palyer uses betay (beaters).

-Also called the ring flute, is the smallest
bamboo flute of Maguindanao. The
sound is produced when the air passes
through the hole found at the bottom of
the instrument while the pitch is
controlled through the five finger holes at
the top and one finger hole located at the
bottom.

Two stringed lute made of wood, one
string for the melody, one for the drone.

Is the lip-valley flute and one of the
most common aerophones of the
maguindanaons.

Kagul
(idiophone) is a maguindanao bamboo
scraper gong/slit drum with a jagged edge
on one side. To play the kagul, one would
use ones foot to hold the instrument on the
ground. Then, using their right hand, one
would scarp against the rough edge while
their left hand makes a beat using another
betay (beater) at the kaguls edge.
