LIMITn/Interference Band Boundary

According to GSM Specification 05.08, the BTS must measure

the interference levels of the upward links of all the free cha
nnels for the purpose of providing basis for managing and all
ocating radio resources.

Moreover, the BTS should analyze its measured results, divid

e the interference levels into 5 grades and report them to the
BSC. The division of the 5 interference grades (i.e. the so-call
ed interference bands) is set by the operator through the ma
n-machine interface. The parameter "Interference band bord
er(LIMITn) determines the borders of the 5 interference ban
ds.

LIMITn/Interference Band Boundary

Default:

LIMIT1 4LIMIT2 8LIMIT3 15

LIMIT4 25

The division of the interference bands should be favorable in describing the in

terference in the system. Generally the default values are recommended. In t
he ordinary situations, the free channel interference level is smaller, so the LI
MIT1 4 value should be smaller. When apparently large interference appea
rs in the system, you can properly increase the LIMIT1~4 values in order to kn
ow the exact interference.

LIMITn/Interference Band Boundary

The BTS measures the interference on unallocated traffic channels, averages the latest measur
ed interference at a specified period, and converts the average interference into an interferenc
e band. Then it sends the interference band to the BSC through an RF RESOURCE INDICATION
message. The BSC will take the interference band into consideration before the channel allocati
on. The interface boundaries are used to help the conversion of the interference level (averag
e) value into corresponding interference band information. Altogether six boundaries determin
e five interference bands. In fact, it is unnecessary to set interference boundary 0 and interfere
nce boundary 5. Interference boundary 0 indicates positive infinity and interference boundary
5 indicates negative infinity. This parameter specifies the other four boundaries. Generally, inte
rference boundary 1 to 4 are within the range from -85 dBm to -115 dBm.

INTAVE/Interference Average Period

Due to the randomness of the radio channel
interference, the BTS must average the meas
ured uplink interference levels within the spe
cified period, and this average cycle is deter
mined by the INTAVE parameter.
This parameter is a decimal number, in SACC
H multi-frames, within the range of 1 ~ 31.

INTAVE/Interference Average Period

The BTS measures the interference on unallocated traffic channels, a
verages the latest measured interference at a specified period, and c
onverts the average interference into an interference band. Then it s
ends the interference band to the BSC through an RF RESOURCE INDI
CATION message. The BSC will take the interference band into consid
eration before the channel allocation.
