We were allocated outboard suspension system

o We conducted research on outboard suspension system by

surfing the web and reading books on suspension systems in

library.
o We worked on QFD and PDS to get a detailed analysis of the key

features expected from the suspension system

Research on outboard suspension system

Elimination of mechanical linkages like push and pull rod.

Mounting positions to be made rigid.

Damper should be precisely mounted.

We noted the dimensions of different parts of suspension system for

formula student car so as to make the design precise

We made many rough sketches in order to attain the best possible

designs.

We also came across certain requirements for changes in the chassis.

An A arm has to be extended for the chassis to support the damper

Advantages

It has better stability

It is compact in design
Mechanical linkages has been eliminated
Disadvantages
The damper is not capable to take all the forces as the forces

are acting in all the directions.
