INTRODUCTION

POPULATION

The public library needs to be well connected to civic life, the national library to the entire nation
and the academic library located at the centre of the collage or university.
But, in case of public libraries, good access to pedestrian flows and public transport is the most
essential factor, as also is the ability to service libraries with their ever- evolving collections and
needs. Hence, there will normally be a public front and a service rear or undercroft.
The external library space should be free of cars although public modes of transport can often
should pass nearby. There also to be provision for disabled access and facilities for the storage of
bicycles. Hence, a level access is preferable and ramps essential where changes of levels are
inevitable. The public space alongside the library entrance provides an opportunities for the building
to make a statement and this in turn can help the significance of the library. It also provides the
chances to in corporate sculpture or other forms of public art into the city some of which may
contain text references to the library collection.
The site for the project lies in the heart of the city of Gurgaon, of sector 29 . Sector 29 is well
connected to the rest of the city with proper road networks . Further projects around the site include
a financial district a WTC, HUDA offices, hostels, ISBT, etc . The sector is connected to the capital
city with proper roads networks. Also just adjacent to the site is the national highway 8 that
connects Delhi to Jaipur.

SITE DISCRIPTION

The site , as planned by the HUDA, has been marked as a library site. The
zoning of the sector as the city centre also lends a cue as to the future
population around the area and the activities involved.
Within the site, peripheral trees were maintained as existing. The central area
reflected the characteristics of a barren land which is later divided into three
imaginary parts as front yard, buiding and the backyard the concept of a
home for a public building.
