Estar with prepositions
• Use estar with some prepositions
to say where something/someone is
is relation something/something
else.
Prepositions
• detrás de behind
• cerca de close to, near
• debajo de underneath
• al lado de next to
• delante de in front of
• lejos de far from
• encima de on top of, above

• ¿Dónde está tu apartamento?


– Está detrás de un edificio grande.
• ¿Dónde está tu cama?
– Mi cama está lejos del escritorio.
• ¿Dónde están mis carpetas?
– Están debajo de tu cama.

Negation with
nunca, tampoco, nadie, and nada
• Remember?
– No can mean not, do not, or don’t.
– It goes
• before a verb
• before the pronoun in gustar

• Ej: No soy de Madrid.


• Ej: A mí no me gusta la pizza.
Negation with
nunca, tampoco, nadie, and nada
• Nunca – never
• Tampoco – neither, not either

• Both nunca and tampoco can take the


place of no.
• Or they can be added to the end of a
sentence that already has no.

• No voy a la playa.
– I don’t go to the beach.
• Nunca voy a la playa.
– I never go to the beach.
• No voy a la playa nunca.
– I never go to the beach.
• Tampoco voy a la piscina.
– I don’t go to the pool either.
• No voy a la piscina tampoco.
– I don’t go to the pool either.
Negation with
nunca, tampoco, nadie, and nada
• Nadie = nobody or not anybody
• When placed after a verb, no must be placed
in front

– Nadie quiere ir al cine.


– Nobody wants to go to the movies.
– No hay nadie aquí.
– There isn’t anybody here.
Negation with
nunca, tampoco, nadie, and nada
• Nada = nothing when it’s the subject of the
sentence

– Nada es fácil.
– Nothing is easy.
Negation with
nunca, tampoco, nadie, and nada
• Nada = not anything or nothing when it
goes after the verb
• When nada comes after the verb, a no must
be placed in front of the verb.

– No quiero nada hoy.


– I don’t want anything today.

To say:
– what you have to do
– what your duties are
– or whose turn it is to do something
Use the verb tocar with an infinitive
Tocar often is used like gustar.
