The Internet Explorer window
The Internet Explorer window displays one web page at a time,
At the top the Address is the address of the page being viewed - URL
(Universal Resource Locator) -- each page has its own unique URL.
Some URLs are case-sensitive and all characters have to be typed exactly,
including spaces or special symbols such as.

Bookmarks
Bookmarks provide a permanent and easy way to remember
your favorite web pages.
Creating a Bookmark:
Go to the page you want to mark. Go to the Favorites menu,
and click on Add to Favorites. Give the page a name or keep
its original name. Then click on OK.

In order to save an
image on a web
page, put your
mouse pointer over
the picture that you
want to save and
then:
Right-click the
mouse and choose
Save Picture As.
Browse to a location
on your hard drive
where you want to
save the image and
click Save.

choose Save As. You

Types of Search Engines

There are two types: directories and indexes.
Directories:
Directories, such as Yahoo! are good at
identifying general information.
They classify websites into categories, such as
accounting firms, English universities and
natural history museums.
The results of your search will be a list of
websites related to your search term.
For example, if you are looking for art
museums, you might use a directory to find it.

Indexes:
We would make use of Google if we are looking
for specific information like the Life of Edward
De Bono - Web indexes would be appropriate,
because they search all the contents of a
website.
Indexes use software programs called spiders
and robots that scour the Internet, analyzing
billions of web pages, newsgroup and blog
postings, and indexing all of the words. Some
even index audio and video.

Refining Your Search

George Boole (English Mathematician) developed an

algebra of logic
This has become the basis for computer database
searches.
Boolean logic uses words called operators to determine
whether a statement is true or false. The most common
