RESEARCH DESIGN

INTRODUCTION
The research design means a process
by which researcher will be in
position to understand the structure
of the research and the various step
to be taken in the process of
research . The research design is
concerned about the mechanism as
to how the research is to be
conducted .

DEFINITION
The research design is the
conceptual structure within which
research is conducted , it constitutes a
research design .
The design is the plan of study and
as such it is planned in every study
uncontrolled and subjective as well as
objective .

CLASSIFICATION OF R.D.

(1)
(2)
(3)
(4)

Sample design
Observation design
Statistical design
Operational design

FEATURES OF R. D.
[A] Most appropriate must be flexible enough
to permit the consideration of many aspect of
a phenomena.
[B] Specifies the sources and types of
information
[C] It is a strategy specifying which approach
will be used for gathering and analysing the
data .
[D] Include time & cost budget
[E] Maximize bias and maximize the reliability .

FACTORS OF R. D.
Method for obtaining necessary
information
The ability and skill of the researcher and
his associates in conducts of research
study
The nature of the research problems .
The availability of funds and time period .
The objectives of research problem are
required to be properly studied .

TYPES OF R. D.
There are three types of research design
{1} Exploratory research design
{2} Descriptive / diagnostic research
design
{3} Hypothesis Testing research design

OR
Experimental research design

SELECTION OF R. D.
The research problem may be
selected from the following source : (1) Every day problems
(2) Technological changes
(3) Unexplored areas
(4) Discussions with supervisor

STEPS OF R. D.
* Formulation of the objective.
* Designing the method of data
collection.
*Selecting sample
* Collecting the data & Review of the
literature.
* Designs of the experiment.
* Data analysing process.
* Final report on the study.

NEED OF R.D.
[1] Smooth sailing of various research
operation.
[2] Stands for advance planning.
[3] Given to others for the comments and
critical evaluation.
[4] Help research to organize his idea.
[5] Without R.D. many research do not surve
the purpose for which they are under taken.
Infect they may even give misleading
conclusion.

CONCLUSION
There are several research design and the
researcher must decide in advance of
collection and analysis of data as to which
design would prove to be more
appropriate for his research project.
He must give due weight to various
points such as the type of universe ,
objective of study the resource list
sampling frame when taking a decision in
respect of the design for is research
project.
