as high level clouds
(about 12km) and
are composed of ice
crystals rather than
water particles.
They appear thin
and wispy and bring
fine weather, often
giving a brilliant
sunset.

middle level clouds
(about 8km), with a
massive, rounded
appearance, like
pieces of cotton
wool.
They usually have a
flat base, but often
extend to great
heights. These clouds
are often associated
with fair weather.

appear as sheets or
layers (about 3km)
and often cover the
entire sky.
Normally they bring
a light drizzle. A
variation of this is
the stratocumulus
clouds, which are
lumpy and greyish.
