DAMODAR VALLEY CORPORATION:


Damodar

Valley Corporation (DVC), one of the first multipurpose integrated river valley
projects of independent India, came into being on the 7th July 1948 by an Act of the
Central Legislature. It is situated in West Bengal and Jharkhand having its headquarter at
Kolkata. Its main business is to generate power.

"Soil

Conservation Department was established in the year 1949 with its Headquarter
at Hazaribag to tackle the twin problems of Reservoir siltation and land deterioration.

C D at Hazaribag, has different specialist Divisions which looks around Afforestation &
Agriculture, Engineering, Soil Science, Hydrology etc. It also carries on the training and
development programmes for the employees at the organization.

EMPLOYEE SATISFACTION
DEFINITION: The term Employee satisfaction is used to describe how happy workers
are with their job and working environment in the organization they work.

Why are employee satisfaction important?


Enhance employee retention.

Increase customer satisfaction
Reduce turnover, recruiting, and training costs.
Enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.
More energetic employees.
Improve teamwork.
Higher quality products and/or services due to more competent, energized employees.

workers are highly satisfied with working condition (hot, cold, light, fan)

employees are highly satisfied with safety equipment at work place.

of the employees are highly satisfied with transfer and promotion policy.

Almost

all the employees are highly satisfied with drinking water facility, canteen services,
cleanliness , sitting facility at work place.

There

was a high dissatisfaction among the employees with wages and salary (32%), training
facility(38%), and, only 47% employees are highly satisfied with educational facilities.

employees are highly satisfied with accommodation facilities, and, 88% of the employees
are highly satisfied with medical facilities.

CONCLUSION & SUGGESTIONS


The

organization is almost perfect at its canteen, hygiene, and cleanliness facilities but most of
the dissatisfaction is for proper sanitation facility. Steps can be taken to improve the condition of
sanitation facility.

Only

38% of the employees are fully satisfied with the training and development programs of
DVC. Measures could be taken to analyse the training needs of the employees and accordingly
plans and programs could be made.

25

% of the employees are highly dissatisfied with the wages and salaries. Improvements in the
salary and wages may be carried off with proper discussion with the employees and management.
