An Electronic Data Link (EDL) is a

computer that serves as a
communication translator to enable
a computer with Service ADVISOR
installed to be able to talk to the
machine's on-board network,
controllers, and sensors.

CAN busses
Note: Electronic Data Link (EDL) V2 (Version 2)

is available. This EDL V2 will be required to run
CAN Health test that will be available on later
releases of Service ADVISOR.

Clear by Controller - Clears the
inactive trouble codes for a selected

trouble codes in all of the
controllers on the machine. It then
retrieves diagnostic trouble codes
and displays any codes that may

Readings: Adapter Types

There are 4 adapter types:
Data Module (PDM)
PDM with USB Adapter
Electronic Data Link
(EDL) (Stand-alone
USB Device)
EDL using bluetooth
The default is Parallel Data Module (PDM).
Bluetooth technology allows electronic

devices to synchronize and transfer data
wirelessly.

connection with an EDL
using Bluetooth adapter, a
Bluetooth Pairing with the
EDL must first be

Bluetooth Configuration provides the
ability to perform the following:
Search (1) - Search for enabled
Bluetooth EDL devices within range.
Pair (2) - Create a Bluetooth Pairing

between the machine and the selected
Bluetooth EDL device. This is required
before a live connection can be
established.
Test Signal Strength (3) - Test the

Bluetooth wireless signal strength of
the selected Bluetooth EDL device. A
signal strength that is too weak or too
strong may not be able to support a
readings connection.

data point and right mouse
click. Select one of the

Note: Only use required data points.

down the response time.

Readings: Search Data Points

The Readings Data Point Search
provides the following functionality:
Search (1) - The user can search the
list of all connected Data Points by
typing either the full or partial Data
Point name into the Data Point Name
edit box and pressing the Search
button.
Locate (2) - When an item in the Data

Point search results list is selected,
pressing the Locate button will find
and highlight the location of this data
point under the readings shortcut bar.
Add (3) - Use to add selected Data
Point to the readings view.

Readings: Templates
There are 2 types of Data
Point Templates:
Pre-Defined
Dealer Defined
Pre-Defined Templates
are predetermined data points
within Service ADVISOR and
cannot be modified. A predefined
template can be used as a base to
create a Dealer defined template.

How to create Dealer

Defined Templates:
1. Click on Readings
2. Select New Template
3. Select and Add data
points
4. Name the template
5. Click Save.
Note: After creating a

template it will appear
under the Dealer Defined
Templates folder in the
readings shortcut bar.

Create a Chart
Double click on the data
point to display an
additional chart tab.

Click on the create
chart button to create a
graphical or numerical
chart of an active data
point.
Double click on a data
point in the list on the
left to add it to the list
on the right.
Select the chart type.
Click OK

The graph chart uses a standard X/Y axis

chart that displays the value of the data
point over time.

The numerical chart displays a large view of

the numeric value of the data point .
This can be easily viewed from a distance.

Trouble Codes from the
readings tool bar, click on
the get diagnostic trouble
codes button.
