• Creativity is the mental and social
process of generation of new ideas
and concepts.
• Creativity means a lots of ideas and
concepts, that may be relevant or
irrelevant to any business.
• It doesn’t consider the premises
(boundary) related to finance,
human resource planning etc. of the
management.
• It is a mental process.
• It depend upon the ability of any
individual, how he/she thinks
differently.
• Boundary Pushing (the rules are
too constraining)
Examples the use of a rubber eraser as
a printing stamp.
• Inventing (bring things together in
a new way)
Examples are Guttenburg, Bell,
Marconi, etc.
Cont..
• Boundary Breaking (the rules are
the problem)
Examples are Einstein and
Copernicus.
• Creativity techniques can be used to
develop new materials for artistic
purposes or to solve problems.
• Most creativity techniques use
associations between the goal (or the
problem), the current state (which may
be an imperfect solution to the
problem), and some stimulus (possibly
selected randomly).
1. Randomness: is a way to introduce new
thoughts or ideas into a creative process.
Randomness or aleatory, is the introduction of
chance elements.

2. Improvisation: is a creative process which can

be spoken, written, or composed without prior
preparation. Improvisation, also called
extemporization.
3. Problem Solving: A person confronted with a
problem is presented with a randomly generated
word, in the hopes of a solution arising from any
associations between the word and the problem.

4. Therapeutic Applications: In this therapeutic

technique, patients analyze the fictional work
and immerse themselves in this fictional world.
• An innovation is a new way of doing
something.
• The goal of innovation is positive
change, to make someone or something
better. Innovation leading to increased
productivity is the fundamental source
of increasing wealth in an economy.
• The commercialization of the creative
idea is the innovation.
a) Product Innovation – new products or improvements on
products. The new Mini or the updated VX Beetle, new models
of mobile phones and so on.

b) Process Innovation – where some part of the process is

improved to bring benefit. Just in Time is a good example.

c) Positioning Innovation – Lucozade used to be a medicinal drink

but the was repositioned as a sports drink.

d) Paradigm Innovation – where major shifts in thinking cause

change. During the time of the expensive mainframe, Bill
Gates and others aimed to provide a home computer for
everyone.
• Improved quality
• Creation of new markets
• Extension of the product range
• Reduced labour costs
• Improved production processes
• Reduced materials
• Reduced environmental damage
• Replacement of products/services
• Reduced energy consumption
• Conformance to regulations.
Common causes of failure within the innovation
process in most organisations can be distilled
into five types:
• Poor goal definition
• Poor alignment of actions to goals
• Poor participation in teams
• Poor monitoring of results
• Poor communication and access to information
