In the 15th century Spain
and Portugal had naval

Spanish and Portuguese

Spanish responded to
these hostilities by
attacking England

Everything changed in the year 1568 when

something unexpected happened

Coming up to them,
there has passed some
common shot between
some of our fleet and
some of them

..and as far as
we perceive,
they are
determined to
sell their lives
with blow

on

For we must consider that we

shall be a city upon a hill. The
eyes of all people are upon us,
so that if we shall deal falsely
with our God in this work we
have undertaken, and so
cause Him to withdraw His
present help from us, we shall
be made a story and a byword
through the world. J.
Whintrop

The 17th century

colony was built on the
basis of a puritan
education
To the aid of this
accelerated
development came
without any doubt the
excellent geographical
position of the British
colonies
England had a
coherent policy with
goals and future

The answer

6.Self-government as a absolute advantage

17th century England
was the only country
that allowed the
colonies a large
measure of selfgovernment.

The British colonies

also had certain
obligation towards
the crown and had to
respect some rules

7.Cheap land: the expansion of

the new world

Another important factor

that made the new
colonies develop rapidly,

American Continent.

getting wealthy and
improving your social
status.

English man became
landlords in the New
World

climate an important

8.Conclusions
In order to conclude I must say that:
Each colony became accustomed to planting new
settlements and to claiming new boundaries
The discovery and colonizing of the New World was more
easily facilitated by: supremacy on seas, cheap land and by
having important technological advantages
People that made the colonies develop where mainly, the
people that wanted to improve their social status and
wanted to escape religious oppression
With constant support and by being seen as a gem by the Crown,
working hard and finding solace in the promises of a better less
restrictive life, the colonists have defeated their unfavorable odds
The colonies thrived under this conditions by having a
crucial advantage: Self-Government
In a short period of 400 years the colonies turned into some
of the most important cities of the world and the country
itself into the strongest one on the Globe
