This presentation is prepared in order to help


the inspectors to have a clear idea about:
The role & responsibilities of quality
inspectors.
How to deal with the challenges that they

Phase#1: Prior to Construction
The quality inspector responsibility at this stage
is to assist the project team during the design
phase of the projects life cycle, usually by:
reviewing the partial engineering drawings
reviewing the project proposal requirements.

Phase#2 : During Construction
The quality inspector is responsible of
proactive & RFI-based inspections & reviews:
Supports the Project Team in his technical
discipline expertise
Contributes to the safety of the project
personnel and property.

Phase #3: During Project Closeout and Acceptance
The quality Inspector participates in:
punch-listing the project
offers his expertise in assisting PMT in finalizing the
closure on all outstanding items on the FEIL (Final
Exception Items List).

Types of Inspection
Surveillance:
It is unexpected visit from the quality inspector to the work site without
prior invitation by inspection contractor in order to:
observe and inspect construction or equipment installation
activities
Proactive approach

Witness point:
It is an identified point in the process where the quality inspector may
review, witness, inspect or undertake tests on any component, method or
process of works. The contractor is required to:
notify the quality inspector
The project however, may proceed.

Types of Inspection
Hold Point:
It is a mandatory verification point beyond which
a work process may not proceed .
The work cannot proceed until the Inspector is able to
verify the quality of the completed work and releases
the Hold.

Types of Inspection
Review Point:
It is the point at which a work activity cant proceed without first
ensuring the review and approval of applicable documents or
personal qualification by a designed organization or authority .

Quality Assessment (Audit):


It is a systematic and independent examination to determine whether
quality activities and related results comply with these arrangements are
implemented effectively and are suitable to achieve the objective.

Types of Inspection
Focused Quality Assessment:
Initiated by the inspector in coordination
with PQM
Focus on problematic areas
To ensure that the project quality activities
and processes are effective.

Inspector Challenges
1. Most of the Inspectors time is spent on the job (work) site:
Follow safety rules as per SA Construction safety manual
Time management
2. Other project teams may argue against requirements:
Be empowered with accurate knowledge
Interpersonal skills
Listen well to arguments before making judgment

Must possess soft skills (Interpersonal, communication, time management, etc.)
Inspectors must possess safety awareness and attitude especially driving on
the job!
Accept official waivers as facts
Never get excited emotions is enemy of professionalism
Never assume anything. Search for hard facts.
Never judge peoples motives; deal with results.
