Introduction to Heat Balance sheet.
Introduction:
Definition: Boilers efficiencyis a term which
establishes a
relationship between energy supplied
to the boilerand energy output received from the
boiler. It is usually expressed in percentage. As a
general rule,
Boiler efficiency (%)= heat exported by the fluid
(water, steam) / heat provided by the fuel x 100.
Types of Boiler Efficiency:
1) Combustion Efficiency.
2) Thermal Efficiency.
3) Fuel to Steam Efficiency.
Methods of Determination
Types of losses:
Heat

Losses in Boilers
Heat Input
= 0.331%
Losses in Boilers
Heat Input
= 0.071%
0.102%

5) Radiation Losses
= 0.200%
Qs = mf x C.V
Where,
mf = mass of fuel used in kg/min
C.V = Calorific value of fuel in KJ /kg
The various ways in which the heat is utilized are
1) Heat equivalent to brake power of the engine.
2) Heat carried away by the cooling water.
3) Heat carried away by the exhaust gases.
4) Unaccounted heat losses.
