Stative verbs (state verbs)

Stative verbs (believe, know, like, seem,


sound, mean, promise, remember) are
not normally used in progressive tenses.
Non-stative verbs are sometimes known
as action verbs.
There are a number of verbs that have
both stative and non-stative uses.
